Let's talk about VIDEO EDITING and videos in general

I just noticed…this is wrong topic. I wanted photo-editing-section.
I guess nobody would mind if you move it there (please)

sorry…but forcing to dowload immediate filesize 26Mb even if one don’t want it…

this has only 14Mb even it has the double length (or more), sound, a better resolution, option to open in fullscreen mode and needs only the bandwith if one click it.
I will never agree to gifs.

While @NaggeDanseGanseDaag is a bit

about this, because 26 Mb are not what they used to be, he does have a bit of a point; the gif format is very inefficient.

I see you use EZgif, and that website can also create webp files. I have not tried their webp features, but switching to that file format has been a real game changer for me.

The files are just so much smaller, or so much better quality at the same size, there’s really no reason to stick to the gif format. You know I do a lot of these, and onle very few of mine are bigger than 10 Mb these days, and I’m doing big resolutions and up to 30 seconds per animation. They usually load faster than they play, so you don’t get much lag in the forum display.

the main thing is…scroll through the topic ‘funny gifs’ and see what happens.
each time when you scroll and a gif/webp appears, it starts downlowing it. try to stop it. good luck.
that is what makes it ‘useless trash’ for me. i don’t want to get it downloaded each time when i scroll trough something.

To be honest, I don’t understand the hype surrounding One Battle After Another. Apart from a few scenes that are worth watching, the movie as a whole didn’t appeal to me at all - even though I actually really like crazy movies. To my taste, DiCaprio doesn’t suit the role he played at all. But the vast majority seem to love the film: it was nominated for more than 500 awards and won 180 of them. That’s pretty impressive.

I hadn’t heard yet of the other two films you mentioned…

While I do think that One Battle After Another is a quite good film, it is a bit over hyped. It clearly profits from being a politically charged film in a politically charged time, even though it is not directly addressing the Trump administration. The voters in these awards like to take a stance. They may also feel that Paul Thomas Anderson is over-due for big awards recognition. His masterpiece There Will Be Blood lost to No Country For Old Men back then, which was a tough call.

The parallel you drew between current political events and the movie sounds entirely plausible. So you are most likely correct in your conclusion regarding the hype.

I haven’t seen There Will Be Blood, but I still remember Javier Bardem’s performance as the iconic villain very well. :slightly_smiling_face: (It’s hard to believe that his role is documented as a supporting role.)

I’m a huge fan of the Coen Brothers and No Country is one of their very best, but with the distance of the years I’m leaning towards There Will Be Blood being the slightly better film, you should definitely check it out,

After this post from X made me aware of the parallels between the movie and reality, I now think that the movie is very clearly addressed…

Today I had the opportunity to test the latest VDH version on another computer: yes, you see only 40-second chunks in the list, but during the download, a continuous stream was recorded that eventually became over 700% of those 40 seconds long :stuck_out_tongue: It would have continued like that if I hadn’t manually stopped it at that point, as I only needed a few minutes.

I’d say it’s still usable and functional, but it’s not becoming any clearer or more intuitive…

Do you mean it is recording “faster” now?

No. It just makes the display of how much has been recorded even more confusing.

The speed still depends on how quickly the VH servers deliver the data.

I’ve now seen it: it’s not a bad film, in my opinion, but to be honest, it didn’t really thrill me. At least it wasn’t a waste of time to watch it, though…

GIF/WEBP again…

That’s right, because i can not see any ART FORM in the webp/gif format.

That thing got 6,6 MB for 15 sec., 395 pics saved 480x640 40ms each.
The same saved as Video 810x1080 with 1000Kbps needs 2MB but would have the original quality presented fullscreen on a 1080p monitor.

So the art form is, to save it as WEBP? Or do you mean that it loads automatically and plays endless is art form?
Or do you mean to find a position for start and end…would be in a video exactly the same.
You can repeat (copy) that thing 3 times and add 45 second music/sound and would have the same filesize as the webp. And if a viewer wants to see it endles…a player has an option to do. You just have to find for the music/sound also a good start/end position for repeat.

You can play this endless, original size and quality, fullscreen, sound.
Display it small and play it endless, turn of the sound and you have your art form but it’s only loaded if you click it and not forced always.

To call ‘saving as webp’ ART FORM is nonsense.
So what exactly do you mean with art form

3 days and still nobody has an answer? So, am I destined to die stupid?

Sorry for the delayed reply, I’m having a lot of stuff on my plate lately.

Yes, I think I can call WEBPs an artform unto themselves, even if only I decide to make them one. Though I still need to find a better better name for it. “Animation” is misleading and the gfile format is just a technicality. Maybe posteriority will name the art form after me. For the time being, “Gif” is probably the best synonym for it.

I would call Grafittis and movie posters art forms unto themselves, even if you can say they are all just paintings. But their specifity lies in teir context and form of presentation. Likewise, although it technically is a short video, what sets the gif apart is indeed the fact that it plays automatically, and in a loop. That presentation makes it immediate, in your face, unignorable. I don’t care if you’re interested in watching what I have to offer, I’ll shove it in your face anyway. Like a hooker chatting you up on the street. It’s punk.

Artistically, I see it as a chimera of photography and video. It is closer to photograpy than a conventional video as it focuses more on a moment, and how best to frame it. And it’s closer to video than still photography as it can feature camera movements or sequences of shots. But most importantly, it is in motion.

If you post a video, the immediate first imprssion is reduced to just a still image, only suggesting motion.

Our favorite subject matter, sex, is bodies in motion. So if your immediate expression is motion, that does make a difference. Does the format generate a bit more traffic than the same clip in a conventional video? Sure. But that is a sacrifice I am willing to make, for the sake of art. Take for example this sublime piece of, dare I say, visual poetry? Any other format just won’t do.

so i got it…your art form is to force me…
to download it again and again each time and increase my use of bandwith (data volume)

Seriously? You want to pose as the poor victim of my brutal bandwidth abuse? If you have a VHTV subscription you cannot really be worried about a few megabytes here and there. And if it’s really too much for you, you can always put me on your ignore list.

yes…because I’m forced. If it would be a preview pic and i would have the choise to click, to get hundreds of mini pics with poor quality packed in one file, it would not be annoying.
