After the successes that Max Verstappen had on the Nürburgring in a GT3 car there is another driver from the F1 circus that will try his luck in a GT car.
Lance Stroll will appear on Paul Ricard on 11 and 12 April for the opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe.
Maybe Bernd Mayländer should also be invited then?
I don’t think McLaren would be able to pay the fee he would require.
Just read, they’ll be using the Nurburgring, next week for some testing, and it’s also going to be interesting when these investigative talks complete, as to what changes will be introduced from Miami.
Lance Stroll’s debut GT race was one to forget. After Stroll qualified P17 his Aston Martin Vantage Comtoyou GT3 Racing Team had a starting position of P19 at the Paul Ricard circuit thanks to the average qualifying time rule.
The race itself didn’t go well. Despite showing some decent pace, Lance received two penalties totaling 175 seconds:
60 second time penalty for ignoring blue flags
115 second time penalty for exceeding track limits
His teammates also received penalties.
Roberto Mehri:
150 second time penalty for ignoring blue flags
105 second time penalty for exceeding track limits
Mari Boya:
Stop & Go penalty
In total, all three drivers accumulated 430 seconds of time penalties during the 6 hour race. They finished 13 laps behind the leader and 48th position overall, out of 49 classified finishers.
That’s always a problem, when you have two drivers, both fighting for the 1 goal. And that’s winning the race, as well as driving for the same team, because at some point. They will trip each other up.
Look at the battle at McLaren during the 1980’s, between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Exactly the same scenario, but Senna wasn’t worried about shunting Prost off the track, and Ron Dennis just let them get on with it.
