Has anyone taken a look ahead to the 2030 FIFA World Cup yet?
The tournament is spread across six countries and three continents:
Spain,Portugal → Europe
Morokko → Africa
Uruguay,Argentina,Paraguay → South America
The majority of the tournament will be played in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. The matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay are one-off centenary matches marking the 100th anniversary of the FIFA World Cup, as the first-ever World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930.
This makes the 2030 FIFA World Cup the first World Cup ever to officially span three continents.
If I’m correctly informed, Infantino’s term runs until March of next year.

As for the matches in South America… I’d just say it might have made more sense to have an entire group play there during the preliminary round, rather than having three isolated matches involving—presumably—six different teams.
Still, the distances between Morocco, Spain, and Portugal are likely shorter than those at the World Cup that just ended. Yes, they are on different continents, but at least Spain and Morocco are in the same time zone… and Portugal is only an hour “away”… so, in more ways than one, it’s still much better than 2026.
There could definitely be something to that. I would also prefer it if the 2030 World Cup were held exclusively in South America to mark the 100th anniversary.
I agree for the most part, especially when it comes to the distances involved. But from a spectator’s point of view, I still find it a bit strange that three matches are being played in South America and the rest of the tournament in Europe and Africa. To me, this setup feels like a compromise that doesn’t really satisfy anyone.
There was a formula that the World Cup was awarded to a continent or an affiliated body such as UEFA in turn. As the USA is part of Concacaf then the next world cup would be awarded to the next affiliated body. The three games that are scheduled for South America acknowledges the heritage of the World Cup in the 1930’s.
I’ve heard that it’s just a matter of a few minor details regarding the transfer fee. But I think we can expect an announcement from BVB about the signing in the next few days.

There are posts on social media that the FA is set to withdraw its support for Infantino, but this has not been explicitly confirmed in the FA’s latest official statement. The statement only says that the FA fully supports UEFA’s position.
