I don’t disagree with your point, I personally would have chosen refs from other countries to avoid any suspicions if the refs have a bad game. Having said that, calling it a scandal is an exaggeration and it feels very one sided, as no one had any objections to a French ref doing the Argentina game.
For anyone who has doubts: let’s take a really nasty scenario: lets say Mbappé gets a red card for something relatively harmless and is suspended for the semi-final — because Macron presumably wouldn’t beg Infantino for mercy — and because of that France ends up losing either that match or the semi-final…
The power an ref holds in a moment like that shouldn’t be underestimated. Ideally, you’d want to avoid even the appearance of such a possibility.

Again, I agree. FIFA was not very smart in their selection. The same scenario could have happened yesterday if Messi received a red… yet no one was questioning the selection of a French ref before the game. I just feel people are taking the “FIFA helps Argentina“ narrative a little too far and are applying it very selectively.

This forum is pretty bad today. It’s just full of speculative posts from people afraid of losing who are already making excuses in case Argentina wins. As for me, I’m rooting for Morocco, Norway (the English have already started thinking they can win, and are becoming ridiculous again), and Belgium. There’s no need to root for Argentina. I’d prefer to stick the knife into the Norwegians, but if it happens to the English, even better—since they’re already starting to think they might win. Kkkkk

I think people who believe the World Cup is rigged for Argentina to win should stop watching it and do something else. If they are convinced it’s rigged, why do they keep rooting for a team? Do they enjoy being manipulated and made fools of? It’s very contradictory behavior on the part of these conspiracy theorists. Besides, today’s match is between France and Morocco—it has nothing to do with Argentina.

There is no conspiracy theory regarding the World Cup being rigged to favour Argentina. However as Lukas has already posted the FBI have begun a fraud investigation which involves Money Laundering which links back to the Argentine FA.

According to reports emerging out of Argentine newspaper La Nación, there is currently an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for possible money laundering involving the AFA.
The report states that the FBI’s investigation, which preliminarily began during 2025, has already begun to gather information by taking testimonies of the financial operations of the AFA, headed by Claudio ‘Chiqui’ Tapia.
The investigation is being headed by federal prosecutors Patrick Gushue, who is part of the Justice Department’s Banking Integrity Unit, and Christopher Ting in Washington DC.

Fifa president Gianni Infantino seems to like having Messi at his tournaments.
Take the inaugural Club World Cup last year, held in the United States.
There was a bit of a delay before it was confirmed which team from the host country would take part.
Surely it would be the 2025 champions? After all, this is a tournament for the best teams based on defined merit.
Close, but not quite.
Inter Miami won the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield, which is awarded to the team with the most points.
But it was LA Galaxy who went on to be crowned champions, winning the play-offs.
Yet Inter Miami were chosen for the Club World Cup.
That allowed Messi to play in the opening game, at Inter Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, against Al Ahly.
