I don’t know why. But even though I enjoy watching and following soccer, I haven’t really gotten into the World Cup spirit yet. Maybe it’ll come later, since the tournament is lasting longer this time.
But I think it’s great that this topic has been brought up now.
I can understand that to a certain extent. Experience shows that excitement for football tends to build as the tournament progresses, and once the knockout rounds begin, things usually get really exciting.
I think so too. At least now that the opening kickoff has happened. And people are talking about soccer. And there’s not so much talk about that idiot Infantino or Trump anymore.
At the very latest, once your own country has played its first game.
I have absolutely no interest in soccer (Fussball).
The only thing I want to say about it is: “soccer” turned into a rip-off.
I really don’t understand why people still pay so much money just to line the pockets of players and organizers with millions.
If I had to pay extra for it, I definitely wouldn’t watch it—I’m sure of that. But since it isn’t just on pay-per-view, I do like to tune in now and then. I have absolutely no interest in regional or national leagues—only the major tournaments, and the (rarely fulfilled) hope of seeing good matches when the world’s best teams gather for a tournament.
By the way: If anyone thinks that three red cards is a lot for a World Cup match, it’s worth remembering the “Battle of Nuremberg.”
That was the Round of 16 match of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany between Portugal and the Netherlands. In that game, a record number of cautions and send-offs for a World Cup match were issued at the time, with 16 yellow cards, including four second yellow cards leading to red. Portugal won the match 1–0; both teams finished the game with only nine players remaining.
