Hey there
Welcome back
I noticed that there are some nice badges like the âcommunity poetâ, which has only been awarded once so far. If there is a badge for poets, I think there should also be a âcommunity gif creatorâ and a âcommunity photographerâ badge. Here are two examples that I think would deserve it.
I also noticed that no one seems to have ever received the âgreat topicâ badge. Is the requirement to fulfill this possibly set too high?
Although Iâm flattered I am not sure such badges would be very practical.
First thereâe the question who gets to judge the images and award the badges. If those badges were to be awarded automatically, based on the likes a user gets, it would turn into a thing of quantity above quality, And how would the system know if a like was given for a picture or the text of the post?
Thereâs really no objective criteria that determine what is or isnât an outstandig image. Art is in the eye of the beholder and what one perceives as a masterpiece, others may find to be trivial. Also every seemingly outstanding picture or gif might just be a lucky shot. Or it may be the result of a lot of work in careful observation of the subject and selection of the single best frame of the stream footage. I will admit that I do not consider that gif of mine that you picked to be particularly award worthy.
With the sheer number of contributions it seems unlikely one could uphold a fair distribution of badges. With poetry things are different. We very rarely see it in this forum, and it also takes some talent and effort. I can see how one can award badges for that without much controversy. I have not been able to find the post which our only poet, @Albion got his badge for, but I wouldnât be surprised if I learned that the badge had been created, maybe jokingly, solely to honor one particularly outstanding post.
There are simple if-then conditions for your considerations:
If a post contains only one photo and receives a corresponding number of likes, then the badge âcommunity photographerâ.
The same for a gif with the badge âcommunity gif-creatorâ.
If a post contains both text and other elements, then the badge ânice replyâ with the corresponding number of likes.
problem solved.
Of course everything is in the eye of the beholder but you take it too seriously. sometimes youâre lucky in life. sometimes youâre unlucky. sometimes youâre rewarded for your efforts. and sometimes you get your ass kicked as a thank you. it is what it is.
Problem not solved. From my experiences in video editing I will say that the works that a creator has put their proverbial blood, sweat and tears into, they will rarely post without any accompanying words. So your if-then conditions might elimiate the most worthy candidates.
maybe youâre right. however, i didnât want to turn it into a deep discussion. itâs a topic of desire and i have expressed my desire. nothing more and nothing less.
those responsible for the forum can then consider whether it is worth serious consideration and how it can be solved technically.
