Incredible “Bend of Lines”

Australian-born, US-based French artist Gilles Bruvel creates incredible sculptures from thousands of square-shaped wooden sticks.

The creation of each sculpted face is a long and painstaking process. Gilles carefully grinds out the huge number of sticks needed for each new work, and after completing the creation of the form, he works with color.

On one side of the sculpture there is a peaceful face with pixelated abstraction. On the other hand, there is geometric abstraction and an explosion of color.

This reminds me of a gadget which consists of blunt ended metal pins you can place a hand upon or perhaps your own face and due to the pins moving to the contours of the hand / face, you get that same ‘pushed out’ appearance.

Hopefully you know the kind of thing I am talking about.

I can’t remember what it’s called or indeed its exact purpose. It’s probably just a novelty item which one can use for a bit of entertainment and amusement.
