Today we are remembering the late Joey Ramone who passed away on April 15, 2001. His birth name was Jeffry Ross Hyman. He was the lead vocalist and songwriter of the punk rock band The Ramones. Joey Ramone’s image, voice and tenure as front man of the Ramones made him a countercultural icon.

Joey was 49 years old when he passed. Joey made punk cool for a lot of people and made them realize how much fun it could be.

RIP Joey.

Wanted to introduce some bands that are from Germany, but noone would think that on the first look.

The Rattles for instance come from Hamburg. “The witch” is already in here, but there was more. They used to play in the Starclub where it all begann for the Beatles.

In “Love of my life” from 1966 I think they must have loved the Doors.

Kraftwerk is a group that emitted a new style of music for their time.

It was called electronic POP.

Titles like Autobahn, the model, roboter had international success, and some were emitted in different languages. The group came from Düsseldorf.

The Scorpions are the most successful german band around. They put Rammstein into second place.

“Rock you like a hurricane” and “Wind of change” are already mentioned.

I had the pleasure to see them live in the “Lovedrive” phase.

It is amazing how they can play hard rock and soft ballads.

Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve?)

Let us celebrate the memory of Pete Shelley, singer, guitarist and songwriter in th English punk band Buzzcocks. He would have turned 69 today, if he hadn’t passed away in 2018. Buzzcocks were as fast and energetic as any other punk band, but usually they were a lot more melodic and poppy than their contemporaries.

Buzzcocks had a few minor hits in the UK back in the heydays of punk, the biggest of them is the one posted here, which peaked at number 12 in the charts,

I see they played at the Chateau Neuf in 1978 and Club 7 in 1979. I can’t really say I remember seeing them, although I was quite often at those places in the 70’s.

I’d like to pay tribute to American guitarist Forrest Richards Betts, better known as Dickey Betts, who passed away Thursday this week at the age of 80. He is one of the co-founders of The Allman Brothers Band, still one of the gretest southern rock bands ever. After they split up, he’s had several solo projects, in addition to playing guitar in various reformed versions of the Allmans.

Dickey Betts was also a fine songwriter, writing some of the Allmans best known songs, like “Jessica”, “Ramblin’ Man” and and the beautiful instrumental “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed”, which is the song I’ve chosen as my tribute to Dickey Betts. Thank you for the music, may you be remembered :guitar:

The Allman Brothers Band - In Memory of Elizabeth Reed (live 1970)

While we’re at it, why not let Dickey sing his best know song for us once again.

The Allman Frothers Band - Ramblin’ Man (live 1972)

The Alman Brothers other original guitarist, the legendary Duane Allman, once said this about Dickey Betts: “I’m the famous guitar player, but Dickey is the good one.”
