I Heard The Bluebirds Sing - Hugh P & Maria
What a fine song, but it’s a new song for me. I guess here in Norway it’s the more “popular” artists we’re familiar with, like The Dubliners and The Chieftains, and of course The Pogues and Sinead O’Connor.
Anyway, this is music that has left it’s mark in popular music. There’s traces of it to be found in Bob Dylan and The Byrds, hence your post a little above this.
bob dylan once said he was influenced by irish folk music , especially a group of brothers , whom he paid a rather special mention of and that was the Clancy brothers
Always great to discuss music, but I have to hit the sack now. Perhaps we’ll pick up the thread on another slow evening here. See you all around.
s___p well bro
Happy 78th Birthday to AL GREEN! (born April 13, 1946)
Al Green was the first great soul singer of the '70s and arguably the last great Southern soul singer.
With his seductive singles for Hi Records in the early '70s, Green bridged the gap between deep soul and smooth Philadelphia soul.
He incorporated elements of gospel, interjecting his performances with wild moans and wails, but his records were stylish, boasting immaculate productions that rolled along with a tight beat, sexy backing vocals, and lush strings.
The distinctive Hi Records sound that the vocalist and producer Willie Mitchell developed made Al Green the most popular and influential soul singer of the early '70s, influencing not only his contemporaries, but also veterans like Marvin Gaye.
Green was at the peak of his popularity when he suddenly decided to join the ministry in the mid-'70s.
At first, he continued to record secular material, but by the '80s, he was concentrating solely on gospel.
During the late '80s and '90s, he occasionally returned to R&B, but he remained primarily a religious performer for the rest of his career.
Nevertheless, Green’s classic early '70s recordings retained their power and influence throughout the decades, setting the standard for smooth soul.
LET’S STAY TOGETHER
With music written by Al Jackson Jr., and Willie Mitchell, and lyrics by Al Green, Green did about 100 takes before he got one he liked, and even then he wasn’t sure the song was any good. It was Mitchell who set him straight, telling him it “had magic on it.”
According to Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 500 songs, after Willie Mitchell gave Al Green a rough mix of a tune he and drummer Al Jackson had developed, Green wrote the lyrics in 5 minutes.
However, Green didn’t want to record the song and for two days he argued with Willie Mitchell before finally agreeing to cut it.
Tina Turner’s 1983 cover of this song revitalized her career, returning her to the charts in both the UK and US for the first time for over a decade.

Good Vibrations: A Beach Boys Anthem with Innovative Flair
“Good Vibrations” by the Beach Boys isn’t just a song, it’s a landmark achievement in pop music history. Released in 1966, the track broke boundaries with its ambitious production, complex structure, and psychedelic undertones.
The song’s origins lie with Brian Wilson, the Beach Boys’ musical mastermind. He envisioned “Good Vibrations” as a progressive pop masterpiece, incorporating elements of classical music and studio trickery. The recording process was legendary for its meticulousness. Wilson spent months in the studio, employing unconventional techniques like splicing tape loops and experimenting with different instruments to achieve his desired soundscapes.
Lyrically, “Good Vibrations” is a departure from the Beach Boys’ usual themes of surfing and California sunshine. While there are still glimpses of those elements, the song delves deeper, exploring feelings of love, elation, and a yearning for connection. Mike Love, the band’s other primary songwriter, contributed his signature style to the verses, adding a touch of pop sensibility to Wilson’s experimental vision.
The result was a groundbreaking single. “Good Vibrations” became the Beach Boys’ first million-selling record and topped the Billboard charts for weeks. It garnered critical acclaim for its innovative sound and solidified the band’s place at the forefront of popular music.
But “Good Vibrations” is more than just a chart-topper. It’s a testament to Brian Wilson’s boundless creativity and the band’s ability to push musical boundaries. The song’s influence can be heard across genres, inspiring countless artists who followed. So, when you hit play, prepare to experience a pop masterpiece that redefined the possibilities of sound and songwriting.

One of the best songs ever written and performed by the artist himself .
in 1974, JOHN DENVER recorded ANNIE’S SONG at RCA’s Music Center of the World studios in Los Angeles (Mar 8, 1974)
Denver wrote this for his then-wife Ann Martell after their first separation and near break up of their marriage in 1974. He said that it was one of the fastest songs he ever wrote, composing it in about 10 minutes while he was riding on a ski lift in Aspen, Colorado. Denver was reflecting on all the joy he found in his marriage and his relief that they were back together.
Wrote Denver: “Suddenly, I’m hypersensitive to how beautiful everything is. All of these things filled up my senses, and when I said this to myself unbidden images came one after the other. All of the pictures merged and I was left with Annie. That song was the embodiment of the love I felt at that time.”
Annie recalled the day Denver wrote the song: “It was written after John and I had gone through a pretty intense time together and things were pretty good for us. He left to go skiing and he got on the Ajax chair on Aspen mountain and the song just came to him. He skied down and came home and wrote it down… Initially it was a love song and it was given to me through him, and yet for him it became a bit like a prayer.”

On this date in 1968, YOUNG GIRL by GARY PUCKETT & THE UNION GAP entered the UK Singles Chart at #47 (Apr 14, 1968).
This song was written and produced by Jerry Fuller, who also wrote “Lady Willpower” and “Over You” for the group as well as “Traveling Man” for Ricky Nelson. It was a warning to a would-be lover of an u______e girl of the consequences of him not being able to resist her charms.
“I was on the road a lot as an artist, fronting various groups for many years,” explained Jerry.
“I guess every entertainer goes through a time when 14-year-olds look like 20-year-olds. That’s somewhat of an inspiration not from my own experience, just knowing that it happens.”
This was one of four Top 10 singles from Gary Puckett & the Union Gap in the US in 1968. They sold more singles in the US than The Beatles that year.
Gary Puckett spent his c___dhood in Hibbing, Minnesota, the same town that was home to the young Bob Zimmerman, who later changed his name to Bob Dylan.
The band wore American Civil War uniforms and gave themselves military ranks, from General Puckett down to Privates Whitbread (the drummer) and Withem (the keyboardist). This was to tie in with the fact that they had taken their name from the site of a famous Civil War battle.

Well, instead of singing " young girl get out of myx mind "

A beautiful lovesong from the C&W-corner.
If I said you had a beautiful body lyric video Bellamy Brothers
Beeing in the C&W - corner, another song comes to my mind:
Bellamy Brothers - Crossfire
in Germany it was a success with a totally different lyric, saying something like " raspberry-icecream for breakfast", performed by Hoffmann & Hoffman
Hoffmann & Hoffmann - Himbeereis zum Fruehstueck (ZDF Disco 17.09.1977)
Another one from Belamy brothers was a great success in Germany:
Let Your Love Flow - Bellamy Brothers Lyrics
Ein Bett im Kornfeld - Jürgen Drews
Talking about brothers in C & W, some other brothers cross my mind.
The Allman brothers.
A cpl songs are in here already, but I am mainstream in some things, so this is

The Allman Brothers Band - Ramblin’ Man (Lyric Video)
The Dutch metal band Within Temptation presented a music video shot in Kyiv
The music video for the song A Fool’s Parade, recorded together with the Ukrainian musician Alex Yarmak, was shot on the streets of the Ukrainian capital.
“The song serves as an anthem against the deceptive maneuvers of Russia and offers a portrayal of the harsh reality endured by Ukraine. Through our music, we continue to shed light of the cruel invasion by Russia in Ukraine. Therefore, we will donate all royalties from ‘A Fool’s Parade’ to Music Saves UA, for the duration of the war.”, says the caption under the video.
