Let’s not forget that Nils Lofgren also has a history with Neil Young and Crazy Horse, starting already in 1970 on After the Goldrush, when Nils was 19. His second studio solo album Cry Tough from 1976 is an excellent album. I still have the LP.
My personal first contact to the music of David Bowie was the album “Low” with “sound and vision” but I love the music even to the china girl and Let’s dance aera.
A fabulous artist, not only as a solo performer, but with his influence for instance into the artwork of Queen, although Freddy Mercury wasn’t too happy about Bowie’s dominance in the recording of “under pressure”
This is from a group I think would deserve a higher popularity. Ran into them accidently when visiting a friend who was playing the album “the sound of…” because he had the blues.
Their variety from slow ballads to faster tracks is wonderful.
diary bread
one of my favourites, but all songs of “The sound of bread” would be worth mentioning.
Never forget this song. It was on a Friday Night on Dutch Radio. I never heard of Rick Springfield or this song before. I bought new Bose speakers that day so that evening i immediately had neighbours knocking at my door.
I saw them twice. In 1977 in Ekeberghallen and 1979 in Drammenshallen. Very good gigs!
By the way, have you seen that St. Paul & the Broken Bones is coming 12.06.2024, 20:00 Cosmopolite Scene (Soria Moriaslottet). I would have liked to have seen them after seeing through a few concerts, fantastic, but unfortunately I am in the US for the whole of June.
A fun fact: I will be staying at a friends house in Bill Morrissey’s hometown of Hartford, Connecticut.
I remember reading reviews of those gigs. Unfortunately that was as close as I got. Supertramp were in their prime then. They were huge for me in the latter half of the 1970’s, from Crime of the Century and the 2-3 next albums.
I really would have liked to see St. Paul & the Broken Bones too, but like you, I’ll most likely be on holiday then. Nothing too exciting, just visiting old friends up north. By the way, where you are going, you might check out if Bill Morrisey is still rememberd there.
To close this rant off, damn what a singer Paul Janeway of St. Paul & the Broken Bones is. Close your eyes, it’s almost like hearing Otis Redding.
