Happy Birthday to Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, who is turning 84 today. He was the bass player and (occasional) singer in this seminal San Francisco band, by some considered the ultimate hippie band.
Phil also contributed to the band’s songwriting, co-writing among others legendary Dead songs like Truckin’ and Box of Rain. On the latter he took the lead vocal, so it may be a fitting tribute to Phil Lesh on his birthday.
Happy Birthday to American guitarist Ry Cooder, who is turning 77 today. He is one of the greats! So he’ll get two to celebrate his birthday

Manfred Mann with the Manfred Mann(Band) and the Manfred Mann’s Earth Band is an artist who made a metamorphosis in music like few others to me. From the older songs like “Ha Ha said the clown” to the “Angelstation”.
I saw him life on the “Watch-Tour” and was blown away.
Besides the excellent music they performed with a background show, that was amazing. In the last part of blinded by the light, during the long tone, a camera in a cartoon-like movie drove into the throat of the singing figure, passed the Vocal suppositories and the tonsils and the head exploded as the tone ended. songs from "Nightinggales and Bombers, “The roaring silence” and this one from “Solar Fire”

Today I want to celebrate the memory of the American singer-songwriter Frederick Ralph Morlock Jr., better known as Fred Neil, who was born 88 years ago today. Although mostly forgotten these days, he was a pivotal part of the folk scene in New York in the early 1960’s.
Bob Dylan recalls that when he arrived in New York, he was advised to seek out Fred Neil. When he finally did, Neil invited him up on stage to join in. As a songwriter he is best known for Everybody’s Talkin’, who Harry Nilsson had a smash hit with after it was used on the soundtrack to the Oscar movie Midnight Cowboy.
Fred Neil more or less retired from the music industry already in the mid 70’s, and passed away in 2001 In additoin to Nilsson, his songs have been covered by among others The Lovin’ Spoonful, Jefferson Airplane and Linda Ronstadt. To celebrate his memory, here is his own verson of Everybody’s Talkin’, and one more!

S__t, some of these deaths hit harder than others. I really feel this one
That’s right, a c___dhood hero
and my feeling was that he was older than 73, when I started going to the discos Sebastian was already an oldie
I heard on the radio earlier today that there was a new cover of this song… and this acapella version with the brilliant video from the hollens-family came back to my mind
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - The Best Years of Our Lives
Thank you for being a part of some of the best years of my life. Now rest in peace
Fresh-faced imbeciles laughing at me
I’ve been laughing myself, is that so hard to see?
Do I have to spell each letter out, honestly?
If there’s no room for laughter, there’s no room for me.
Cockney Rebel - Tumbling Down
Steve Harley (1951 - 2024)
Forgive me for getting a little carried away. Been on the phone with an old friend who is a big fan, and we almost got a little emotional. Like @Lukas156546 said above, a c___dhood hero
Oh, dear, look what they’ve done, to the blues.
Nils Lofgren Shine Silently Lyrics
and another of his favourites to me
I love the sytheziser in this song
Nils Lofgren - Baltimore
I just “love” these bearded guys. What a beat they brought!
“Nils” an early solo album was good. For me, he is best known as guitarist etc. in Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, which I have had the pleasure of seeing several times!
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy For The Devil (Live at Tokyo Dome 1990)
Love this LIVE - version from TOKIO
