Mary Hopkin - Those Were the Days (1968)
B___dy rough day at work today. Great to sit back and just relax. But that got me thinking a little. If I had the same day at work 30-40 years ago, I’d probably be out partying by now. Those were the days my friend, we thought they’s never end
Then the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
Happy Birthday to Kenney Jones, who is turning 75 today. As drummer in The Small Faces, The Faces, The Who and on numerous guest appearances through the years, he’s been the backbeat on many great songs. So many that to celebrate Kenney Jones’ birthday, I have to cheat a little and make it a twofer
The Small Faces - Lazy Sunday (1968)
The Faces ~ Pool Hall Richard (1973)
on this day in 1979 Marc Bolan died

Allow me a little something different this time around. I want to celebrate the memory of the Chilean singer Victor Jara. 50 years ago today he passed away in a tragic manner, when after being beaten and t_____ed, he were shot to death at the national stadium in Santiago, Chile. He was 40 years old.

Happy Birthday to Don Felder who is turning 76 today. Best known for his time as one of the guitarists in The Eagles from 1974 to 1980. During those years he also co-wrote a few of the band’s songs. In fact Don Felder is the man behind the melody of what may be The Eagles signature track, Hotel California. That particular song is alredy posted here, so to celebrate Don Felder’s birthday, here’s a live version of One of These Nights, with some fine guitar playing from him.
Last week was the birthday of Jose Feliciano, not my cup of tea normally, but this cover is very good, if you look further on Youtube you can also find a Michael Jackson -Beat it and Doors- light my fire cover
Jose Feliciano - The thrill is gone
Leonard Cohen - Tower of Song
Let us celebrate the memory of Leonard Cohen, who was born 89 years ago today. To me he is one of the greatest songwriters in the history of popular music. There’s so many songs to choose from, so let’s just settle for a walk up the stairs in the tower of song.
Yesterday I saw a crime thriller with Götz George (probably relatively unknown to the international audience here).
The following song by the US alternative rock band Concrete Blonde appeared in this film and I couldn’t get it out of my head.
Concrete Blonde - Joey
Schimanski!!
The film was called “Zabou”…
Concrete Blonde - B___dletting (The Vampire Song)
Concrete Blonde were a good band. If you are not familiar with them, you might want to check them out some more. I remember very well their album B___dletting from 1990. Here is the title track.
