John Hiatt - Slow Turning (1988)
Happy Birthday to American singer and songwriter John Hiatt, who is turning 71 today. He’s known from a long solo career, and from the “hobby band” Little Village, together with Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. Although he’s had some moderate success through the years, John Hiatt is probably best known as a songwriter, being nominated nine times for a Grammy award. His songs have been recorded by numerous artists, including Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt and Iggy Pop. To celebrate John Hiatt’s birthday, here is Slow Turning, the title track from his ninth album.
I’ve had the pleasure to see John Hiatt live once, sometime in the late 1980’s. Good memory.
Thin Lizzy - Southbound
Let us celebrate the memory of Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy, who would have turned 74 today. What a great talent the music world lost when he passed away in 1986 aged 36.

The Rolling Stones - It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll (But I Like It)
In memory of Charlie Watts, who passed away two years ago today, aged 80.
Keith Richards is quoted as saying about the recording of the video: “Poor old Charlie nearly drowned… because we forgot he was sitting down.” Check out Charlie at 3:19, waving above the bubbles.
Ken Hensley - July Morning
Let us celebrate the memory of Ken Hensley, who would have turned 78 today if he hadn’t passed away in 2020 at the age of 75. In Ken Hensley’s memory, here is his excellent live version of this classic Uriah Heep song, from a concert in Norway in 2005.
love that song!
Ken was surely one of the best and underrated musicians ever
Magazine - Motorcade
Let us celebrate the memory of Scottish guitarist John McGeoch, who would have turned 68 today if he hadn’t passed away in 2004 aged 48. He played guitar in several new wave/post-punk bands, among others Siouxsie & The Banshees and Public Image Ltd.
Personally I remember John McGeoch best from Magazine, who probably may be the most musically sk__led band from that era. Their three first album’s, all with John, are excellent. To celebrate John McGeoch’s memory, and make sure his name gets mentioned once again, here is Motorcade from Magazine’s debut album from 1978. Plenty of John’s guitar work here.

Playing For Change, with John Paul Jones - When the Levee Breaks
Quote - “Playing For Change (PFC) is a Certified B Corp (Social Purpose Organization) created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people.”
By the way, the footage from Norway in this video, is from the area where I come from. Still remember those winters. I don’t really miss them, but somehow thinking about them gives me a good feeling.
