Roger Miller - King Of The Road (1964)
Bruce Springsteen - Backstreets (live 1975)
Happy Birthday to Bruce Springsteen, who is turning 74 today. There’s many songs to choose from for celebrating his birthday. I’ll settle for my first favourite song of his, from back in the day when Born To Run was his latest album.
Dolly Parton - The Bargain Store
Just a song for us slightly elderly gentlemen, or gentlewomen. Hang in there, we’re not quite done yet!
New single form the Rolling Stones together with Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder
Rolling Stones - Sweet Sounds Of Heaven
Ben E. King - Spanish Harlem
Let us celebrate the memory of American singer Benjamin Earl Nelson, better known as Ben E. King. He would have turned 85 today, if he hadn’t passed away in 2015 at the age of 76. Ben E. King’s name is forever etched onto the history of music with the timeless song Stand By Me, which can be found somewhere up above in this topic. However, he had some other good songs too, so to celebrate his memory, here is Spanish Harlem.
Electric Light Orchestra - Rock n’ Roll Is King
Wishing everyone a Happy Weekend, with a song that always cheers me up.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Refugee
Let us celebrate the memory of Tom Petty, who passed away six years ago today at the age of 66.
Chubby Checker - Let’s Twist Again
Happy Birthday to American singer Chubby Checker, who is turning 82 today. With The Twist, this guy had his first hit in 1960. Yet he is still among us! Although most people think of The Twist when they think of him, Chubby Checker actually had several hits through the first part of the 1960’s, and not only the follow-ups to The Twist. Anyway one of those follow-ups are my favourite, so I pick Let’s Twist Again to celebrate Chubby Checker’s birthday. Fun and good-time music indeed!
Janis Joplin - Maybe
Yesterday it was 53 years ago that Janis Joplin passed away. She was a f___e of nature!
Let us celebrate the memory of Irish singer, songwriter and guitarist Philip Chevron. who passed away 10 years ago today at the age of 56. He started in the latter part of the 1970’s in the Irish punk band The Radiators From Space (or The Radiators). Except for good reviews and a couple og minor indie hits, the band never really made it. Still they had quite a few catchy tunes, among them is Television Screen.
However, Philip Chevron is arguably best known from his time in The Pogues from 1984 to 1994, where he wrote several songs. The best known are probably Thousands Are Sailing, which I choose to celebrate his memory. Here is a live clip from 1991 where Philip, in the absence of usual singer Shane MacGowan, gets to sing his own song for once.
I got to see Philip Chevron live once with The Pogues some time in the late 1980’s. It was a fun gig.
Let us celebrate the memory of English singer and songwriter Kirsty MacColl, who would have turned 64 today, if she hadn’t passed away in a tragic accident in 2000 at the age of 41. She was an a very gifted songwriter, who deserves to have her name mentioned again and again.
For the larger public she is arguably best known for her duet with Shane MacGowan on The Pogues’ Christmas song Fairytale of New York. But I will I choose one of Kirsty MacColl’s own songs to celebrate her memory, so here she is with A New England.
David Lee Roth turned 69 today
could not really choose one song of him Van Halen or solo (i’m just a gigolo for instance)
so here a nice tv performance with 9 songs
Also because Edward ( Eddie) van Halen who died 6 oktober 2020 is present in this footage
The Byrds - One Hundred Years From Now
Allow me something a little different and personal this time. Today it is 100 years since my f____r was born. Earlier this year it was 25 years since he passed away at the age of 74. I still miss my old man, and I’d like to celebrate his memory with this song by The Byrds.
Paul Simon - American Tune
Happy Birthday to Paul Simon, who is turning 82 today. What song to pick to celebrate his birthday? Beats me, but I guess tihs one is as good as any.
I’d like to pay tribute to singer Rudolph Isley, who passed away two days ago at the age of 84. He was one of The Isley Brothers, an American singing group who had several hits in the 1960’s and 70’s. To the memory of Rudolph Isley, here is Shout. Thank you for the music Rudolph, may you be remembered.
Funny, I saw the original french song Les Feuiiles Mortes(1947.48) but by a Korean Ko Woorim, member of a great cross over Forestella…his french is perfect, flawless!
Colosseum - Stormy Monday Blues
English singer Chris Farlowe turned 83 Friday last week, so a belated Happy Bithday to him. He’s known mostly from his solo career and as singer in various incarnations of the English prog/jazzrock band Colosseum. And Chris Farlowe is still going strong. To celebrate him, here is a clip from a concert in Germany in September this year, with the current incarnation of Colosseum. Chris Farlowe’s still standig solid up front, one month short of 83.
