Happy Birthday to English singer and songwriter Eric Goulden, better known as Wreckless Eric, who is turning 69 today. Yet another of the sadly underapperciated artists from the British pub rock and new wave era in the 1970’s. Eric’s a great songwriter, with uptempo, catchy and melodic songs. Here is Wreckless Eric’s debut form 1977, Whole Wide World.

I want to pay tribute to English bassist Andy Rourke, who passed away today at the age of 59. He played bass in The Smiths, by many considered the archetypal indie rock band. Andy is yet another musician in the background, who rarely gets a mention, while still being a vital part of the music we love. He’s got a mention now. To Andy Rourke’s memory, here What Difference Does It Make, my favourite song by The Smiths. Thank you for the music Andy, may you be remembered.

Let us celebrate the memory of American singer Jeffrey Ross Hyman, better known as Joey Ramone, who would have turned 72 today, if he hadn’t passed away in 2001, at the age of 49. He was the iconic vocalist in the iconic punk band The Ramones. There’s really not much more to say here. In Joey Ramone’s memory, here is Sheena Is A Punk Rocker, my favourite Ramones song, and one of my favourite songs of all time!

Let us also stop for a short moment to celebrate the memory of Andy Fletcher, one of the founding members of Depeche Mode. He passed away one year ago today, at the age of 60.

Tina Turner - Steamy Windows

In light of Tina Turner’s passing, I listened to some of her stuff on YouTube. I also read some comments, and one of them gave a shout out to Tony Joe White, the writer of this song. I’d like to bring this shout out to our forum. Tony Joe White was an American singer, songwriter and guitarist, who passed away in 2018, at the age of 75. He plays guitar and harmonica on this song, and also wrote three more songs on Foreign Affairs, including the title track.

Tony Joe White - Tina

Tina and Tony Joe became friends, and he wrote this song for her in 1993. It’s a beutiful song. Now we lost them both. The lyrics below gets even stronger in light of this.

If the day should ever come when your smile is just a motion and you feel that you might need someone, you know I’d cross that ocean. I would never have to think twice, you’re part of my life and whatever path you choose Tina you know we pull for you. You just keep on taking us higher, you are the fire.
