I’d like to pay tribute to Irish guitarist Johnny Fean, who passed away last Friday at the age of 71. He played guitar in the Celtic rock band Horslips. They had their career in the 1970’s and into the 1980’s, and although they had limited commercial sucsess back then, they are today regarded as one of the defining bands of the Celtic rock genre. I’d like to pay tribute to Johnny Fean with a song from 1974. I remember recording it from the radio back in the day, on a casette I kept for years. Here’s the song Blindman by Horslips. Thank you for the music Johnny. may you be remembered.
Let us celebrate the memory of McKinley Morganfield, better known as Muddy Waters, who passed away 40 years ago today, at the age of 70. He is one of the greats, a giant in blues history, and a major inspiration on many rock acts, among others The Rolling Stones (who got their band name after one of his songs), Eric Clapton and Angus Young of AC/DC. In Muddy Waters’ memory, here is I Got My Mojo Working.
Let us celebrate the memory of American drummer Ed Cassidy, who would have turned 100 today, if he hadn’t passed away in 2012 at the age of 89. He was the co-founder of the band Spirit, who had some sucsess in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, with a few albums and a couple of singles. Spirit are to me one of the more underappreciated bands in rock history, with several great songs. In Ed Cassidy’s memory, here is their best known song - I Got A Line On You by Spirit.
Happy Birthday to Irish folk singer Christy Moore, who is turning 78 today. In a addition to a long and sucsessful solo career, he is also co-founded the folk bands Planxty and Moving Hearts. As a Birthday tribute to Christy Moore, here is the song Black Is the Colour. This is a beutiful moment.

Let us celebrate the memory of English singer Ian Dury, who would have turned 81 today, if he hadn’t passed away in 2000, at the age of 57. He is one of the true greats from the pub rock and new wave scene in the UK in the latter part of the 1970’s. Ian Dury started his musical career in Kilburn & The High-Roads, before going solo, with or without The Blockheads. To celebrate Ian Dury’s memory, here is his solo debut Sex & D__gs & Rock & Roll.
Let’s celebrate the memory of American bass player Donald “Duck” Dunn, who passed away 11 years ago today, at the age of 70. He played bass in Booker T. and the MG’s, one of the grooviest bands in the history of modern music. As a tribute to Donald’s memory, here’s Green Onions, their best known song.
The Kinks - Phenomenal Cat
After some posts in Marica & Shinobu’s topic about their new cat Yuki, I came to think about this song. Then I found this lovely montage befitting the tune. Here it is, dedicated to Yuki and all the other cats in VHTV.
Let us celebrate the memory of Scottish bassist and singer Jack Bruce, who would have turned 80 today, if he hadn’t passed away in 2014, at the age of 71. He was a highly respected musician, with a long solo career and several collaborations with other artists. However, he is arguably best known for his work with Cream, alongside Eic Clapton and Ginger Baker. As a tribute to Jack Bruce’s memory, here is Cream with Tales of Brave Ulysses.
