Happy Birthday to Dolly Parton, who is turning 80 today! ![]()
Dolly Parton - Coat of Many Colors (live on TV 1970)
Dolly is a fantastic songwriter, There’s whole novels or movies bewteen the lines in many of her songs. Although her melodies are mostly firmly rooted in the country and bluegrass tradition, she has a knack for making them catchy too.
Dolly Parton - The Carroll County Accident (1969)
One of my personal favourites is an anthem for us slightly elderly ladies and gentlemen.
Dolly Parton - The Bargain Store (1975)
Dolly can also surprise with her choice of cover songs. Have you heard this old classic sung and played like this before?
Dolly Parton - Stairway To Heaven (live 2002)
Happy Birthday to Dolly

Dolly Parton - Dumb Blonde (live on TV 1967)
Happy Birthday to Rod Evans, the original singer in Deep Purple, who is turning 79 today. He sang on the band’s first two albums, and had a couple of hits in a few countries together with them. Strangely enough the UK was not one of these. Anyways, he was sacked from Purple in 1969 and replaced by Ian Gillian. As they say, the rest is history.
Deep Purple - Hush (1967)
What about Rod Evans then? In 1971 he released a solo single, before forming the supergroup Captain Beyond together with former members of Iron Butterfly and Johnny Winter’s band. This band played a mix of heavy rock, prog and jazz. In spite of being a pretty decent band, they never made much of themselves. There was internal turmoil in the band, and Rod Evans left after their second album in 1973, then leaving the music business for a few years.
Captain Beyond - Bright, Blue Tango (1973)
In 1980, when there was no Deep Purple, Rod Evans fronted a reformed version of the band, with him as the only member that had anything to do with Deep Purple. This lead to a lawsuit, which he lost. After that he disappeared from the public view. However, according to the drummer in Captain Beyond, Rod Evans is still alive. We’ll have to take his word or it and wish Rod Evans a happy Birthday ![]()
I came across a rather strange video of Till Lindemann, the singer of Rammstein.
But now I understand their love of fire and fireworks a little better.
so the most logical song to follow up this video is this one
Rammstein - Feuer Frei!
in Honour of the birthday of the late great Ronnie Van Zant the former lead singer and founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd here is my favourite song by the band
Fun fact: it took only fifty-two years after its initial release for Lynyrd Skynyrd to finally decide to shoot a video for “Free Bird”…

It’s long ago that this has been here…i just heard it in a playlist
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Blood & Sinners has been nominated for an Oscar in 16 (!) categories, setting a new record. ![]()
I also liked the film - but 16 Oscar nominations?? My goodness… ![]()
I rewatched it recently, it’s really very good. I’m rooting for Ludwig Göransson and the film in general, over One Battle. Haven’t seen Marty Surpreme or Hamnet yet, though.
“The King of Soul” was born 95 years ago today. He’s name is Sam Cooke, and he is often regarded as one of the greatest vocalists ever. Some has even called him the inventor of soul music, who paved the way for singers like among others Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Al Green and Curtis Mayfield.
During his eight year long career, Sam Cooke had 29 singles in th US top 40, four of them in the top 10. Several of them have become standards in soul, blues and rock. Unfortunately, in December 1964 his life life was cut short when he was killed by a gunshot. He was 33 years old. So here’s one to Sam Cooke’s memory ![]()
Sam Cooke - Bring It On Home To Me (1962)
Sam Cooke was a great singer, so while we’re at it, allow me to include his only number one single in the pop charts, both in the US and in Canada. It was his debut record.
Sam Cooke - You Send Me (1957)
