Happy Birthday to the American singer and songwriter Neil Diamond, who is turning 85 today! He has written numerous songs that became big hits, either performed by himself or by others. And his presence in both the singles and the album charts has been consistent. In fact he’s appeared there in all seven decades from the 1960’s to the 2020’s, that is between the years 1966 and 2021.
Neil Diamond has also toured and performed more or less constantly through all these years. Then in 2018 he announced that due to Parkinson’s disease he would retire from performing live. Still he has appeared on stage a couple of times after that, the last time being in 2022. Neil Diamond is one of the greats, and I’d say he has earned the right to rest on his laurels by now. Happy Birthday to him ![]()
Neil Diamond - I am…I Said (1971)
Some of you might recognize this next song from somewhere else, performed by someone else. So here is the original, written and sung by Neil Diamond.
Neil Diamond - Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon (1967)
Fantastic song excellent band
Just to follow up a little on my post earlier today about Neil Diamond, who is turning 85 today. In 1966-67 The Monkees had a smash hit with I’m a Believer. It is written by Neil Diamond, and is a fantastic pop song!
The Monkees - I’m a Believer (1966)
Now when I said smash hit, I meant smash hit! The single got to number one in the charts in the following countries (in alphabetical order): Australia, Austria, Begium, Canada, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zeeland, Norway, South Africa, the UK (for four weeks) and the US (for seven weeks).
It is estimated the single sold around ten million copies worldwide!

Along the way he has helped out, and also made some friends in music ![]()
The Rolling Stones - Time Is On My Side (1964)
Back in those days TV was not common in the remote part of the North-Western part of Europe where I grew up. Still I vaguely remember The Monkees TV-show. And The Monkees Theme is one of the first pop or rock songs I remember, along with The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine. Damn, it’s almost 60 years ago now ![]()
Best stop now, before I get too lost down Nostalgia Avenue ![]()
While we were at it, I found a good pic from Keith’s first concert

It is sometimes said a good song can be done in differet tempos and arrangements, and still remain a good song. This is a good song!
Savages - Paranoid (around 2016)
Savages - Fuckers (2016)
Ten minutes of anger and anxiety. Whatever you do, don’t let them fuckers get you down!
I’d like to pay tribute to the German bass player Francis Bucholz, who passed away three days ago at the age of 71. He’s best known as the bassist in Scorpions from 1973 until 1992. Apart from reuniting with Scorpions guitarist Uli Jon Roth for tours in 2005 and 2006, he did play in a small handful of bands after leaving Scorpions, the best known being Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock.
The last Scorpions album Francis Bucholz played on is Crazy World from 1990. It is also the only album with a song credited to him. This song may be a fitting tribute to his memory. Thank you for the music Francis, may you be remembered.
Scorpions - Kicks After Six (1990)
While we’re at at, one more in memory of Francis Bucholz.
Scorpions - Speedy’s Coming (1976)
