Reading @NaggeDanseGanseDaag’s comment above about the length of the song which was posted, got me wondering what the longest song ever recorded actually is. I did some research and this paragraph is what I found…
The longest officially released song is “Shri Ramcharitmanas” by Dr. Jagadeesh Pillai, which is 138 hours, 41 minutes, and 20 seconds long, according to Guinness World Records. This record was achieved on April 12, 2023, and the song is based on the 16th-century epic Shri Ram Charit Manas.
While “Shri Ramcharitmanas” holds the Guinness World Record for the longest officially released song, there are other notable contenders for the title of longest song. For example, Bull of Heaven’s “Like a Wall in Which an Insect Lives and Gnaws” is 5 years, 258 days, and 8 hours long, as noted by J.Scalco. Additionally, “As Slow As Possible” by John Cage is a musical composition that won’t finish until 2640, making it the longest running non-computerized piece being performed, according to Euronews.com and Wikipedia.
Imagine listening to a song in its entirety for over 5 years, before it ends!!!
is it a ‘song’ ?
Halberstadt, September 5, 2001: The world’s longest organ piece begins. The performance of John Cage’s “ORGAN2/ASLSP” is expected to last 639 years.
the last info i had (2-3 years ago) was on that day: it is currently playing a pause. that meant nothing. 3 years long.
Well I can only give you information based on what I discovered. I am not aware of any details of other really long pieces of music.
Mind you, having said that, before I found out the information I posted previously, there was me thinking a song like the FULL version of ‘Hey Jude’ was a long one!!!
it was meant as additionally information about this
completely stupid nonsense, which some people who consider themselves highly important connoisseurs then describe as great art they all didn’t hear the shot
Is there a livestream?
i did not find. but just this:
The longest note lasts 58 years (the poor residents)
Next tone change: 5 August 2026.
Reminds me of that one:
Good grief!!!
On an organ, that would be called a cypher (you might want to look that up if you are not familiar with this).
it play’s on an organ in a church
btw. are we going out of topic?
Yes, I remember reading that in what you said before (about it being an organ piece), which was why I mentioned the cypher, which is basically a ‘sticky’ note caused by an issue in one or more of the pipes / or other part of the organ.
google translated that as Chiffre
How weird! I ran the word ‘chiffre’ (exactly as you wrote it ) through Google after you said that and it came up as the word ‘figure’.
Oh and yes, now I definitely HAVE gone off topic, for which I apologise.
just a last one…it should be moved by somebody to
VHTV and the Chamber of Chatters
where we can go to discuss that stupid ‘music’ called nonsense
I don’t think this is too off topic. It was a discussion about music, and it was both interesting and fun. If you ask me, it might as well stay here
When it comes to songs posted, I’ll get us fully back on topic soon enough anyway
from a newspaper 24.01.2022
After 15 months, the third largest pipe, the G-sharp, will be leaving the seven-note organ that has been sounding continuously since September 2020.
The change of tone will also take place under COVID-19 conditions with a reduced audience.
The next change of tone is scheduled for two years.
In the Burchardi Church in Halberstadt, the piece by the American avant-garde composer John Cage (1912-1992) has been played on a specially built and automatically operated organ for over 20 years. Because the piece is performed as slowly as possible according to Cage’s instructions, it began with a pause on September 5, 2001
and the first three pipe notes began on February 5, 2003.
Since then, a change of tone has only occurred every few years. The last change of tone was on September 5, 2020, when two more pipes were added to the existing five.
