The Queen is dead, long live the King

Although not confirmed it is highly likely, but if the devils horns could be omitted until she is laid to rest that would be very Kind of @VHTV_James , I think.

Please see the latter part of my last comment.

They will still be legal tender for six months or up to a year as you cannot expect the currency to change overnight.

Plus some banks will still accept the old five and ten pound notes and exchange them and I think the Bank of England provides such a service.

Edit: Just checked and yes The Bank of England will exchange old notes. MoneyWeek | Investment advice, analysis, finance news.

The BBC have just confirmed that the Funeral will be on the 19th .

One pound notes as mentioned by JonR went out of circulation in 1988, and banks no longer have to accept any note or coin which has gone out of circulation. They may accept paper 5, 10 or 20 pound notes but not a 1 pound note. I found a few in an old wardrobe in January and took them to Barclays, they flat refused to pay them into my account. I then tried NatWest and HSBC again a resounding no.

I never mentioned Ā£1 notes, I was talking about Ā£5 and Ā£10 notes and there is no maybe the Bank of England will still exchange them. I know where there was a misunderstanding as by old pound notes, I meant old sterling notes, not the old Ā£1 notes, I wasn’t clear enough.

Please read the first line of my post again. JonR said ā€œa pound noteā€ I know you were talking about 5’s, 10’s and 20’s but Myself and JonR were talking about A pound note.

And? I was adding that you can still change the other notes.

Sorry but then that is irrelevant as we were not talking about those notes in the first place :stuck_out_tongue:

Do one pal… I haven’t got the time or stupidity in my head to deal with idiots tonight. If you want to an argument, then go and find someone else. :man_facepalming:

Then you are quite strict here. In Germany I could even exchange 10DM (whether 5DM to 1000DM) banknotes from the 70s. I would get € in the equivalent for it.

Since JonR also wanted a banknote with the queen, I think it doesn’t matter to him if he could use it later. He wanted that for the collection I think.

If the 1Pfund notes are ā€œworthlessā€, they would be even better suited for it.

We sadly say goodbye

Wow that escalated quickly. I wasn’t looking for looking for an argument, you made it into one. Then you start to hurl a___e to-boot, just wow!

Today the Queens cortege made its way from Balmoral with thousands lining the streets to pay their respects and is now resting in Holyroodhouse Palace in Edinburgh. It will remain their until Tuesday before making the final journey to London. It’s been a very historic day and has allowed the people of Scotland to pay their final respects.

In the UK the banks will always exchange old notes no matter what their age.

I was on the Royal Mile today and have to admit I shed a few tears, RIP your majesty.

I was watching all of that on BBC1 / The News Channel. How many people do you think were there with you? It looked like a huge number and quite understandably so.

It was quite something to watch, I must say. Very moving indeed.

On that photo what is ā€œkind of sadā€ but result of our times, it’s the giant amount of people filming instead showing their respect on that particular moment

Very true, they would end up not seeing very much by the time they had fucked about with their camera’s
If you wanted a record no doubt it will all all be on Utube within the hour.anyway.
