it was supposed to be a whimsical reply to your comment how good the white ‘vest dress’ looked on her. I agreed it looked good. And it would not have been wasted on me because i would have been inclined to make a pass at her - unlike the guy playing the guitar she was with that evening.
The next line ‘’ not on me exactly ‘’ meant that it would not have looked good if i was wearing it . It was a joke !
