I was thinking more dinosaur than dragon since the lizard is ancient and not mythical. But since it’s a specific lizard it can be that it is an ancient dragon in-universe. 
Wow even that is not the answer it COULD still help you to find the right answer. I am actually surprised how people saying things connected to the right answer but not knowing they do
