The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC/H.265) compression standard is a video compression format intended to succeed H.264. It is hard for browsers to universally support HEVC/H.265 because it is complex and expensive to license. HEVC/H.265 competes with AV1 which has similar compression quality and provides a free license.

Desktop browsers supporting H. 265: Chrome (version 107 and higher), Microsoft Edge (version 16 and later), and Safari (version 11 and later). Mobile browsers supporting H. 265: Chrome (version 107 and higher) and Safari for iOS (version 11.0 and later).

It’s useless. Others have tried. He has his own made-up, unrealistic, fantasy definition.

OK so in that case, as someone who uses the latest version of ‘Edge’, I should be able to view such videos without issue, shouldn’t I?

The browser does NOT allow me to view these videos…SOMETIMES.

I prefer ‘Edge’ as it seems to run the forum and the cameras better (overall) than ‘Chrome’.

It would appear I am now ‘stuck between a rock and a hard place’, with this problem.

Yes, you should. That’s what I’ve always read. In fact , when I first became aware of this problem, Edge was the ONLY browser that would play HEVC/H. 265 videos (also written as H265). I don’t understand why you can’t.

I’ve never used Edge, so I don’t know if there is anything in your configuration you need to turn on to make it work.

Can anyone else play these videos in Edge?
