This song does come with some historical baggage, but it’s the song that constantly comes to my mind thinking about the two of you. And now there’s even a lamp post in this picture.
“Lili Marleen” is a melancholic song of a soldier who used to meet his girlfriend at the lamp post by the barack’s gate, it’s about their love and the uncertainty of what the future might bring.
A year seems a to be terribly long time when you’re young, but it will pass.
I had to look a while to find a video suitable for this forum, which comes at least with an english translation of the lyrics and without too much tasteless nostalgia for the darker chapters of our history.
