@VHTV_James You said that you were the only moderator, yet Jabbath has earned a Leader badge and has the ability to edit any post. How is that not a moderator? It even says it in the definition that he is bestowed moderator abilities. Even if he didn’t use that power it is at his disposal to use. Can you be honest here and admit that Jabbath is in fact a moderator of this forum? I don’t care that he is and I’m sure he will serve you well. It is clear that he is deeply involved with the management of this forum. I just think you should be upfront about who has moderator powers. He needs a badge or shield to be identifiable as such, I would think.
This badge is granted when you reach trust level 4. You’re a leader in this community as selected by staff, and you set a positive example for the rest of the community in your actions and words here. You have the ability to edit all posts, take common topic moderator actions such as pin, close, unlist, archive, split, and merge.
I am not a mod. I can’t ban people and just here to help sorting topics and stuff. There is enough staff here to do moderation actions. I just merge and move some topics to help people.
But, you are a moderator if you can edit other people’s posts, no? I mean I can’t do that and neither can anyone else. What’s wrong with accepting this title?
Please do not go off-topic, even if you see someone did in a given thread. Help us keeping the forum clean no matter what.
Answering your question, Leader is not a Moderator.
Jabbath is not employee, he is not affiliated with the company despite being moments operator on voluntary basis.
The ability to edit posts is indeed included Leader’s badge by default by discourse, and we didn’t change it. Part of the reason is because I trust jabbath am sure he won’t use this power to act malicious. This ability may come handy by helping newcoming users with posts formatting, as it is tricky thing to learn. The other part is because climbing to Leader position by default from TL0 to TL4 is quite a long way based on the settings, I have some time to reconsider how this is set up before any other user comes closer to this level. That makes me think that we will make separate group for trusted users, with same abilities as Leader has now, removing this ability from TL4. Or we will make TL4 manually-assigned, granting this level to trusted users based on forum system + admin decision.
You are right Amy yes he is a moderator. I own my own forum and is the admin and yes what ever jabbath1987 can do is what a moderator can do. Banning members is not what a moderator can do but that is what the admin does.
And for the record, getting a free subscription and access to a longer timeline is a form of payment for services rendered. A good argument that he is in actuality an employee or at least a vendor.
Not sure he is a leader he could be called a overseer or team member or something else but basically anyone who can edit anyone’s posts split a topic delete a post and so on is a moderator because i know because i have years of being a moderator and a admin to know and anyone to tell you otherwise is lying
In the original message @anon11413635 mentioned me asking the question. I did reply to it in the post below, and looking at your further discussion I have no intention to keep up with it.
We must agree that everyone can call anybody however they like, if it makes them feel better.
Sorry, but that’s a copout and a dodge. You have a moderator section in your forum and Jabbath should be listed there if he has moderator powers. It’s only fair that people know who is who and who has the power to moderate their actions. Simple honesty and fairness applies!
And that’s what you’ve been provided with. You’re literally trying to make things up for them to look your way, while I’m telling you how things are in reality.
No, there is no moderator section available for Jabbath in the forum.
There is one, called Staff, which is Discourse-created out of the box and is available for admins & moderators. As you may guess, Jabbath is not able to access it because he is not a moderator.
but he is a moderator. Geez! He is a moments operator as defined and labelled, but he is also a moderator with the power to edit posts. Ffs why can’t you say it?
Without having the title without have access to the moderation Centre section. No not defined as a moderator but has moderator powers because whoever can delete a post edit it and move a topic lock it remove it rename it split it has all the powers that a moderator can do.
Agreed! It’s crystal clear that Jabbath is in fact a moderator. For some reason they want to hide it. They don’t have any problems identifying him as a moments operator, why not his other abilities to edit posts too. Surely it’s good information for members of a forum to easily know who has that kind of power over their posts. Again, it’s a simple matter of transparency and honesty.
You are confusing rights and opportunities. Any person in real life has the ability to steal things, or k__l other people. But they have no right to do so. And if they do it, they can be punished. So it is here. He has the capabilities of a moderator, but he does not have the rights of a moderator. Because he is not a moderator. @anon11413635 , did you start this conversation because you are against the fact that he has these opportunities? Or because you want the same opportunities for yourself? If the second - then it is easy to arrange. And if the first - then it’s not up to you to decide.
I can confirm I can’t see any categories of a moderator. And in all the time now I had the opportunity to help the site and the team with several things I never did anything to a___e the opportunities I got.
Talking about work. I see it as a hobby I enjoy and I won’t miss it. I am happy the team and me already achieved some cool things together and I am looking forward to more amazing things in the future.
So short answer: They can trust me and I can trust them.
