Saw a documentary about alcoholism there a while back. At the time it was made there was something like 11 million more women than men in the country due to alhoholism. Average lifespan was in the seventies for women, 66 or something for men. Also until not too long ago, beverages with an ■■■■■■■ % of less then 10% wasn’t even considered ■■■■■■■ but food, so anyone could buy it.

Alcoholism there in the 1990s was as severe as the opioid epidemic in the United States today. As you pointed out, it was bad enough to significantly reduce the average life expectancy of men. ■■■■■■■ taxes are now incredibly high in the country. While this isn’t a miracle solution, it has proven to be effective.
