Exactly the same as Hitler and his army. And we did see how many people died because of that.
But that was also the reason why he lost. many fronts and in the end hardly any leadership that held to him …
I hope for all that the scorched earth policy is a military strategy aimed at destroying everything that could be useful to the enemy will never be done again.
This has been applied in Russia …
I think this winter will severely test who has the greater resolve, the attacker or the defender and I know who my money is on.
This is not a military update but an economic update.
Russian markets dive and searches for plane tickets spike as Putin escalates Ukraine war
The rouble tumb__d against the dollar on Wednesday and Russian stock markets dived around 10 per cent after Putin ordered Russia’s first military mobilisation since World War Two.
Google data also showed a spike in searches for flights out of the country amid claims the cost of one-way tickets had soared, suggesting spooked citizens were looking for ways to flee the draft.
Putin said he had signed a decree on partial mobilisation, significantly escalating what Russia calls its ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine, and warned that Moscow would respond with the might of all its vast arsenal if the West continued with what he called its ‘nuclear b_______l’.
Shortly after 7am in London, the rouble had slumped 2.6 per cent against the dollar, having earlier dipped to its weakest point since July 7.
Russian stock indexes were plunging, with energy giants Rosneft and Gazprom at one point losing around 12 per cent.
The benchmark rouble-based MOEX index hit its lowest point since Feb. 24, the day Russia sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine.
The index was down 5.5% at 2,094.5 points, earlier reaching a low of 2,002.73 points. The dollar-denominated RTS index was down 8% to 1,061.9 points, its lowest point since April 27.
That’s a bit misleading, the ruble has dropped a little since the announcement but it’s still 1.3% higher then it was this time last week
If you are also honest, there is no real ruble trade …
I am curious what the consequences for the Russian realms will be. I can only hope some of them to will leave the country. Germany for example announced this morning they grant asylum to all people refusing Military service during this mobilization.
I can`t see much consequences, this is a reservists mobilization so just the ones that actually did the military service if i got it right
Maybe Tod and Kellie should be sent to the front today?
Actually, every man has to join the military in Russia except …
- he buys himself free with bribes … the rate in Moscow says you are 5000$
- he studies, which is also expensive
- he finds a doctor who writes him unfit for money.
There is such a thing as “civilian service” but then you can do it for 4 instead of 2 years and determine externally where. Is also quite new and hardly known.
They can draft these people who have had military experience but let’s remember there is a difference between that and combat experience. They will soon know what it’s like to have HIMARS and various other loitering munitions raining down.
I still believe talk of using nukes is just hot air. Feeble threats thinking we are going to take such talk seriously. Like the figure of speech goes… you don’t s__t on your own doorstep.
Well right now should be alarming enough for people who can leave to leave Russia. It won’t get any better.
And it should also be in interest of NATO to deliver now everything they have to end this war before end of year.
i been reading that all men between 18 and 65 are banned from leaving the country, is that correct?
For Ukraine it’s correct. But not for Russia…
I agree it’s not looking good for Russian’s and I’ve seen a few Russian vloggers posting YouTube videos about leaving Russia. It seems to me the largest age group that actually understands what’s going on are those under 30.
@Dave27 yes pretty much all of the former Yugoslavia hates Serbia especially the Slovene’s and Croats. But the Serbs are chetniks after all and they support Russia all the way. If you think back to who committed genocide in that conflict it was mostly them. Like the Russian’s, it takes one to know one.
Not every man, conscription age is currently 18-27 years and to serve a 12 months period, drafts currently happen twice a year, around 200,000 people are recruited in each draft
It is true, however, that many richer Russians tend not to join the military, but to choose the way around it.
