Did (Do) You Know

…that 200 years ago today the first public railway in the world was officially opened. It ran between Stockton and Darlington in County Durham in the North-Eastern part of England, close to the city of Middlesborough.

…in medieval Germany, husbands and wives could settle their disputes through “marital duels”. The man fought with one arm tied behind his back in a hole, while the woman wore weighted clothing and used a sack filled with rocks as her weapon.

These “martial duels” were rare, but they were legal.

…that tonight I’m drin-king Norwegian whisky. Yes, you read me correctly, Norwegian whisky. I can definitely taste that it is not a Scotch, Bourbon or Irish. Then again, it is definitely whisky.

Yes, there is a distillery in Northern-Norway, using mostly the same ingredients to distill whisky as they do elsewhere, only the ingredients are local. Recently my best friend granted me a bottle as a gift, and I have to say I enjoy it :tumbler_glass:

…that, The world’s most poisonous snake can kill even an elephant, but there is one animal that survives, the horse!

Did you know? No matter how deadly a snake is, even the fearsome king cobra, a horse doesn’t die from its bite.

After the bite, the horse may become mildly ill for about three days, but then recover completely, as if nothing had happened.

This is one of nature’s most incredible wonders, and hidden within this very creature lies a secret that can save human lives: the antidote.

Thanks to this gentle creature, we are protected from some of the deadliest poisons on earth.

It would be venomous rather than poisionous as poisons are ingested and venoms are injected. For example, swallowing a cyanide capsule or in the other case, by means of the snake’s fangs. :snake:

What is A&W? The quarter pounder is similiar to the Big Mac? We do not have such a thing in Germany.

A&W Trade Marks Limited Partnership is the oldest US franchise chain in the fast-food industry. The company was founded in 1922. The name A&W stands for the initials of founders Roy Allen and Frank Wright. The chain’s offerings primarily consist of hamburgers and hot dogs.

No it is not the same:

“The main differences are that a Big Mac has a three-part bun and two smaller patties with Big Mac sauce, while a Quarter Pounder is a single, larger patty served on a standard bun with ketchup, mustard, and pickles. A Quarter Pounder has more protein and iron, while a Big Mac has more fat and is also larger in serving size with more total calories.”

The “quarter pounder” refers to the weight of the patty, It’s one quarter of a pound (ca. 0,45 kg). You know how they measure weight in America :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

So

Perhaps you should try Norway then and Bergen then. At Inside Rock Cafe they have a burger with 2,2 kg meat called Suicide Solution. It is one of those “eating challenges” that there is a lot of on YouTube. There’s video’s of people eating it.

I’ve been to Inside Rock Cafe twice. They have tasty burgers, all named after classic metal songs. I did not try Suicide Solution! :winking_face_with_tongue:

Jeg har fysisk frekventert for eksempel Burger King kjeden mye særlig de seineste rundt reina fire til fem åra. De har gode burgere, og de varierer adekvat i størrelse etter hva slags individuell smak man eventuelt har. :face_blowing_a_kiss:

Are the prices in Norwegian kroner?
These are astronomical prices compared to McDonald’s. A simple hamburger at McDonald’s currently costs €2.20 in Germany, which is equivalent to 25.63 Norwegian kroner…
