…that the guy who played the retarded banjo playng kid in the classic movie Deliverance (1972) is not retarded at all.

Billy Redden had minor roles in a small handful of movies after Deliverance, but none of them lead to a career in the movies. He ended up working at Walmart.

Because today 40 years ago today the wreck of the Titanic was discovered:

…that the search for the Titanic was actually just a cover story for a secret military operation, the search for two sunken submarines?

Only when this search was completed and there was still time left, Robert Ballard could pursue his hobby.

By the way: experts suspect that in 5-10 years, hardly any major remains of the wreck will remain. Bacteria and rust are doing their work in destroying the wreck.

It is the bacteria who actually eat away the rust, thus destabilizing the material and dissolving it. They feed on the oxygen in the rust (Fe2O3).

Thank you again for providing such an interesting piece of work. Cheers

additional Fact

… that not far from the Titanic lies the wreck of the submarine “Titan” … which experts are now certain should never have been allowed to go on a diving voyage

The Titan accident was just an example of Natural Selection :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Jesus, Jabba, that’s about as cold-hearted as it gets. Five people died on that submersible and not because of anything to do with natural selection, which takes generations, BTW.

How Natural Selection Works
The process of natural selection involves several key steps and principles:

  1. Variation:
Individuals within a population exhibit a range of heritable variations in their traits.
  2. Inheritance:
These variations have a genetic basis and can be passed from parents to offspring.
  3. Differential Survival and Reproduction:
Due to limited resources, not all individuals survive and reproduce to their full potential.
  4. Adaptation:
Individuals with traits that make them better suited to their environment—such as better food finding or predator avoidance—are more likely to survive and reproduce.
  5. Increased Frequency of Advantageous Traits:
Over many generations, these advantageous, heritable traits become more common in the population, while less beneficial traits become less frequent.

Key Principles
Fitness:
In a biological context, fitness refers to an organism’s ability to survive and reproduce, not necessarily its strength.
Heritable Traits:
For natural selection to occur, the variations must be heritable.
Environmental Influence:
The traits that are advantageous depend on the specific environment; what is beneficial in one setting might be harmful in another.
Evolution:
This ongoing process results in populations changing over time, adapting to their environment.

Example
Imagine a population of beetles, some green and some brown. If green beetles are more easily spotted and eaten by birds than brown beetles, the brown beetles are more likely to survive and reproduce. Because the brown coloration is a heritable trait, their offspring will also be brown, leading to a population where brown coloration becomes increasingly common over time.

It was dark humour. Sarcasm. I know about all that

Sorry, but I wouldn’t call that humor of any kind. You just don’t joke about someone dying.

Det er faktisk rimelig lenge siden jeg har brukt noen av de nevnte operativ systemene der. Så det er en nøyaktig tids angivelse på dem. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

i’m still using XP in a VM to keep my scanner usable as there is no driver for newer windows versions.

Fun fact: I don’t really need it, but I still have a working version of Win 3.11 in VMWare
… and every subsequent version, except Win95, because that doesn’t work with multi-core processors (at least that’s what the error message says).

Look man, it might be floppy, but does it need letters and numbers to prove the point?

Ah hang on, not sure we had the same thing in mind! :innocent:
