Cabbage rolls in #timelapse

It just hit me that I havnât had cabbage rolls in years. Since my mother died. Maybe Iâll try making some.

The one crucial tipâwhich Aora gets exactly rightâis to blanch the cabbage leaves beforehand and trim the thick central rib flat; otherwise, they are hard to roll.
Everything else is a matter of personal taste and a willingness to experiment. I donât add rice to the filling; instead, I use a standard ground meat mixtureâthe same kind I use for meatballsâwith bread soaked in milk and a good spoonful of mustard, or ketchup. Sometimes I mix in grated cheese or crispy fried bacon bitsâŠ

I think for cabbage rolls, the way I remember them, I will not go with my usual meatball mix, I think they were pork only instead of pork/beef mix, spices, mustard, not too much bread, finely chopped onions and an egg. And I wonât put tomatos in the sauce.
