And for the last few months she (Zaya/Jul) was barely even there. The 2 years still seems like a bit of a stretch but they were surely not a couple in any capacity for some time before leaving.

Although I personally prefer a more realistic, lived-in apartment feel I know what you mean. RLC apartments are usually nicer like that.
