This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion
Please treat this forum like a public park—a shared community space for exchanging skills, knowledge, and ideas. These guidelines are recommendations to help maintain a clean, respectful environment for all.
Improve the Discussion
Help make this forum better by contributing meaningful posts. If you’re unsure whether your comment adds value, take a moment to rethink it before posting. Browse existing topics first—you might find that your interests are already being discussed.
Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree
It’s fine to disagree, but always criticize ideas, not people. Avoid:
- Name-calling
- Personal attacks
- Focusing on tone rather than content
- Knee-jerk contradictions
Instead, offer reasoned counter-arguments that enhance the discussion.
Your Participation Counts
Your contributions set the tone for new members. Use the forum tools—likes, bookmarks, flags, and replies—to highlight quality content. Your active engagement makes this community better for everyone.
If You See a Problem, Flag It
Don’t reply to negative behavior; simply flag it. Moderators will review flagged content and take action if needed. Continual violations may lead to warnings, temporary silencing, or a ban. Note that a forum ban does not affect your access to the main website.
Always Be Civil
Nothing sabotages a healthy conversation like rudeness:
-
Be civil. Don’t post anything that a reasonable person would consider offensive, abusive, or hate speech.
-
Keep it clean.
-
Respect each other. Don’t harass or grief anyone or impersonate people
-
Do not share other user’s private/personal information
-
Do not share VHTV Participant’s private/personal information.
- This includes guessing/suggesting/stating anything you may or may not know.
- Private information includes, but is not limited to:
- Real names
- Date of birth
- Contact information
- Education
- Profession
- Nationality
- Location
-
Posting links to external projects our participants/ex-participants take part in/their nicknames is permitted as long as they mention our project back on their profiles. This requirement helps keep things reciprocal and supports our mutual interests.
-
Respect our forum. Don’t post spam or otherwise vandalize the forum.
These are not concrete terms with precise definitions — avoid even the appearance of any of these things. If you’re unsure, ask yourself how you would feel if your post was featured on the front page of the New York Times.
This is a public forum, and search engines index these discussions. Keep the language, links, and images safe.
Keep It Tidy
Make the effort to put things in the right place, so that we can spend more time discussing and less cleaning up. So:
- Don’t start a topic in the wrong category.
- Don’t cross-post the same thing in multiple topics.
- Don’t post no-content replies.
- Don’t use GIFs as sole purpose of replying to other member. Either react to the post via emoji or write comprehensive reply with contextual GIF of your choice.
- Don’t divert a topic by changing it midstream.
- Off-topic posts will be either purged or moved into separate thread
- Don’t sign your posts — every post has your profile information attached to it.
- Don’t use GIFs as sole purpose of replying to other member. Either react to the post via emoji or write comprehensive reply with contextual GIF of your choice.
Rather than posting “+1” or “Agreed”, use the Like button. Rather than taking an existing topic in a radically different direction, use Reply as a Linked Topic.
Users who violate the rules above will be warned. Next will be temporary silencing. Ultimate penalty would be permanent silencing or ban.
Post Only Your Own Stuff
You may not post anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission. You may not post descriptions of, links to, or methods for stealing someone’s intellectual property (software, video, audio, images), or for breaking any other law.
Respect Content Limitations
To protect content integrity and respect platform policies:
- Do not post full scenes or entire events, even if divided into multiple shorter clips.
- Only short excerpts or summaries are allowed, with a total combined duration not exceeding 5 minutes per scene.
- Attempting to bypass this limit by uploading a full scene in parts is considered a violation.
- These restrictions help ensure fairness to participants and paying subscribers.
Violations may lead to silence or suspension.
