Yes they are highlighting the “something major” with an exclamation mark to show, excitement, shock, surprise, etc.

Either we’ve misinterpreted a lot of this, or they’ve got it all worked out and planned out between them already. So far there doesn’t seem to be any panic in the apartment, and this is good. They will sort things out between themselves, we are just hoping for the best. Some of us actually like them, one way or another.
