English humor is black, but theirs is inappropriate.
It is true that in Ukraine 99% of the population can also speak Russian, but Russian is also the case in many other former states of the Soviet Union.
You wouldnāt like it either if I had said, but in the 80s there was a bombshell atmosphere in England in 1982/3 Hyde Park and Regentās Park or Harrods to name just a few examples.
Iām from the UK and yes I certainly get your point. 
I read this someplace a while back. People who live in Kiev pronounce it āKiā¦evā because the people who live in Kiev speak Russian and thatās how Russians say Kiev. All of a sudden everyone is pronouncing it Keev. Growing up I always pronounced it Kiev. Please tell me people who speak Russian ā how should people pronounce Kiev (or Keev)?

Your question here is more about Ukrainian or Russian pronunciation. But if you donāt know Cyrillic, thatās already very high school in the difference.

In Kiev you used to be able to entertain undisturbed in Russian instead of Ukrainian. Now itās rather frowned upon.
The state language was Ukrainian. In the West, Ukrainian was usually spoken. In the middle, both were possible and also normal. In the East, Russian has predominated.
