There are proverbs and usually you think of them in one language and translate them.
If then not total garbage comes out, you are often satisfied.
If you also think in several languages, a mix often comes out. The saying was from the German and PONS just said that these are the same.
Grandma was a lot earlier and was still harmless against it.
I pity you with the Russian proverbs. These translated often make little sense. (I prefer to write them in Russian too, because double translation would be even worse)
Also many German proverbs have the problem that there are certain subtle differences in English. But that’s exactly the joke.
