a bit of raggea here:
NOW THAT WE’VE FOUND LOVE - THIRD WORLD
Candlewick Green - Who Do You Think You Are
Something one would sometimes want to ask and often considers not to.
82 years ago today the Queen of Soul was born. To celebrate Aretha Franklin (1942-2018), one of the greatest voices in the history of popular muic, here’s one of her lesser known songs, just as classic as her big hits.
Aretha Franklin - When the Battle Is Over
While we’re at it, here’s both music and film history, all rolled into one history lesson.
Aretha Franklin - Think
Now, even a little more history. The man Jake and Elwood is trying to “steal” from Aretha, is Matt “Guitar” Murphy. who during his many years as a musician played with several big names, among others Howling Wolf, Chuck Berry and Etta James.
Like Aretha, Matt Murphy also passed away in 2018, almost on the date two months before her. He was 88 and she was 76. They were on a mission from God!
After this post I’ll probably watch the Blues Brothers again today…
Hey there buddy, I know Monday’s can be hard. You might want to edit this post.
Yes, it’s a classic, with one of the best soundtracks ever
Here’s another group who’s music followed me around throughout my musical life.
After the phase of “If you leave me now” or “Saturday in the park”, the most impressive phase to me was album #17 which almost entirely gets me till today, without having lost the reconnaissance of the “old times”
Chicago - We Can Stop the Hurtin’ (2006 Remaster)
Chicago - Along Comes a Woman (2006 Remaster)
Chicago - Once in a Lifetime (2006 Remaster)
Talking about city names, another group with to me outstanding music is Boston
Besides “More than a feeling” there are a lot more great tracks.
Boston - Don’t Look Back (HQ)
Boston - Foreplay / Long Time (Official Audio)
“This band was so good Massachusetts named a city after it!” .
reminds me:
Bee Gees - Massachusetts (One For All Tour Live In Australia 1989)
Although there will be people who dislike the Bee Gees.
I must say, throughout the years with the old songs from for instance “Massachusetts”
to the “Staying Alive” aera and the million songs they wrote for Samantha Sang to Dionne Warwick, they had a pretty unique career in waves.
One of my all-time favourites from the Bee Gees
The Bee Gees - Nights on Broadway (1975)
Bee Gees — Nights On Broadway (Live at National Tennis Center 1989 - One For All)
Speaking of cities and states
Gladys Knight & The Pips - Midnight Train to Georgia (Official Audio)
Ray Charles - Georgia On My Mind (Official Video)
Brook Benton - Rainy Night in Georgia
If the members in songs section wasn’t blocked for me, I had put
Lynyrd Skynyrd Georgia Peaches
there for Peaches
Happy birthday Diana Ross
Diana Ross & The Supremes - Stop! In The Name Of Love
Upside Down (Original CHIC Mix)
Beautiful woman with a special relation to Michael Jackson
Ok, since we’re at it with Georgia…
Atlanta Rhythm Section - Georgia Rhythm
I had this LP some time back in the day. Not quite up there with The Allmans or Skynyrd, but as far as I remember, damn fine southern rock anyway.
I’ve been lazy there lately. I’ll see to it. Just don’t let your creativity run to wild
Wasn’t until I heard this covered by Everything But The Girl that I appreciated just what a great song it was technically. Those key and tempo changes are masterful
Sarah Vaughn - A Hundred Years From Today
Who knows what it’ll be like a hundred years from today. Only one thing is for sure, None of us will be here. On the other hand, a hundred years ago today American singer Sarah Vaughn was born. So here’s a song to celebrate one of the finest voices in jazz history.
