Today Kurt Cobain would have turned 57 years
It’s insane how diverse they were musically. I’m just getting familiar with most of their stuff and there are so many amazing songs.
As for being banned, I really don’t think that could have happened in the late 90s. Even 20 years earlier the Sex P____ls got away with some airplay restrictions. And while I personally don’t like them they must have been a bigger threat culturally than wacky one hit wonder Chumbawamba (who conversely are a much more talented, more authentic, musically better and overall more likeable group).
Some quotes about this performance. Went from laughing to being hooked in at how good she is. Look at her sk__l and calmness. No doubt, she is the final boss. Coolio would be 60 now. He’s more her contemporary than MANY watching this!
Europe - The Final Countdown
Today I would like to congratulate John Terry Norum who turns 60 today. John is a Norwegian-Swedish guitarist and one of the founders of the rock band Europe. Concurrent to his role with Europe, he also maintains a career as a solo artist. Europe`s third album The Final Countdown released on 26 May 1986 gave the band its international breakthrough. The album was certified Triple Platinum in the USA and reached number 8 on the Billboard 200 chart. The title track, which was based on a keyboard riff composed by by lead vocalist Joey Tempest as early as 1981–82 was released as the first single and became a worldwide success, peaking at number 1 in 25 countries, such as the UK, US, France, Spain, and Germany.
I read them too and the last one is so crazy to think about. Like I know it’s true but the last time anyone saw Coolio he was like 30 and this woman is a grandma. And yet at the same time my brain knows that he would be 60 now it just doesn’t add up at first.
Johnny Winter - Rock & Roll
Johnny Winter passed away in 2014 at the age of 70. Today he would have turned 80. Let us celebrate the memory of this great guitar player with some Rock & Roll.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones - Grass Is Greener
Popped up in my recommandations today, a totally new band for me. Damn, they sound fine, with good songs and an excellent singer. He must be the living proof that the old saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is true. Just listen to the great voice coming out of that chubby and nerdy looking guy.
The ABBA musical CHESS won’t be the same after this. Their dancing becomes more impressive if someone moves their eyes down to the shoes they wear!
The Who - Won’t Get Fooled Again
Happy Birthday to Roger Daltrey of The Who, who is turnig 80 today!
There is something a little special about this video. It was recorded May 25. 1978. Little did anybody know then, that this was going to be Keith Moon’s last performance with The Who. He passed away three months later.
Lou Reed - K__l Your Sons
82 years ago today Lou Reed was born. To celebrate his memory, here’s one of my favourite songs of his, K__l Your Sons from Sally Can’t Dance, the first Lou Reed LP I bought back in the mid 70’s. I still have it!
Now we lost Lou Reed in 2013, when he passed away at the age of 71. We still have his music, and his songs are still being covered ever so often, sometimes by artists that may come as a surprise. I really did not see this one coming!
Keith Richards - I’m Waiting For My Man
This is what Keith has to say about Lou: “To me, Lou stood out. The real deal! Something important to American music and to ALL MUSIC! I miss him and his dog.”
Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind
25 years ago today one of the greatest female singers in the history of popular music passed away. Let Dusty’s voice linger on!
Carpenters - Rainy Days and Mondays (1971)
Today I want to honor Karen Anne Carpenter, one of the best female singers in my opinion, who left us far too soon at the age of 32. She would have turned 74 today. Karen Anne Carpenter was an American singer and drummer. She and her brother Richard formed the pop duo The Carpenters in 1969. The duo was characterized by a well-crafted and sweetly laden pop music. They stood out in the liberated rock style of the time. Sadly she suffered from anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that later led to a serious heart defect from which she died.
my fave band of all time . was lucky enough to meet with Karen and Richard back in 1976 they came into a little cafe/resturaunt in Soho london that i was working in .
They recorded the album" Live at the Palladium (The Carpenters album)" released in 1976. They were probably privately in Soho on this tour when you met them.
could well of been, at that time i was a free spirit and pilled upto the eyeballs so probably didnt think about them on tour . just enjoyed the atmosphere it caused , kinda pushed me into liking them as much as i did after that
