Charles Edward Anderson Berry was born 100 years ago today. He’s better known to the world as Chuck Berry, and is one of the most influential musicians in the history of what we call rock music today.

With his simple and straight to the point lyrics, Chuck Berry has been called the Ernest Hemingway of rock ‘n’ roll. Numerous of his songs have become standards in rock, and have been covered by countless artists through the years. He’s also a very influential guitarist, inspiring among many others Keith Richards, Angus Young and Slash.

Chuck Berry passed away in 2017 at the age of 90. Cheers to the memory of one of the true greats in the history of rock ‘n’ roll :beer_mug:

Chuck Berry - Sweet Little Sixteen (US Tv show 1958)

If Chuck Berry has a signature song among all the classics he wrote, it has to be Johnny B. Goode. The song has been posted above, so I’ll include an alternative version of the song to end this post.

“Eight Guitar Greats” - Johnny B. Goode (live 1984)

The eight guitarists is Dave Edmunds (who does the singing), David Gilmour, Dickey Betts, Neal Scon, Johnny Winter, Brian Setzer, Steve Cropper and Link Wray.

Let me make this Monday evening ladies night, and say Happy Birthday to three American female singers. Two of them had the first recording of songs that became standards. And the third…well, she was the singer in a band that was a part of the CBGB’s scene in New York in the latter part of the 1970’s.

Gloria Jones - Tainted Love (1964)

81 years old today. Happy Birthday :beer_mug:

Jeannie C. Rily - Harper Valley PTA (1968)

Also 81 today. Happy Birthday :beer_mug:

The Shirts - Out On the Ropes (1979)

And Annie Golden of The Shirts is turning 75 today. Happy Birthday :beer_mug:

Happy Birthday to Ten Years After drummer Ric Lee, who is turning 81 today :beer_mug:

Ric Lee is the only constant member of Ten Years After. He has drummed on all the band’s albums. And he still keeps a version of the band going. They actually had a concert scheduled for today, but it has been postponed. Still, there’s upcoming gigs in Germany and the UK scheduled for the coming November and January.
