What's the best song you have heard today?

I’d like to pay tribute to American guitarist David Lindley, who passed away yesterday at the age of 78. He first got known in the late 1960’s in the folk/bluegrass/psychedelia band Kaleidoscope. Along with his solo career, he played guitar with numerous artists, among others Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and Warren Zevon. Here is David Lindley with Mercury Blues, probably the best known song from his solo career. Thank you for the music David, may you be remembered.

I’d like to pay tribute to American guitarist Gary Rossington, who passed away yesterday at the age of 71. He was one of the founding members of the great Lynyrd Skynyrd. In memory of Gary, here’s a song co-written by him. It is Sweet Home Alabama, probably Skynyrd’s best known song, live from 1977. Thank you for the music Gary, may you be remembered.

This live clip is only about three months before the tragic plane crash where Ronnie Van Zant (vocals) and Steve Gaines (guitar) sadly lost their lives. Since then Allen Collins (guitar), Billy Powell (piano) and Leon Wilkeson (bass) has passed too. So let this also be a tribute to the memory of all the members of this great band we have lost through the years.

Happy Birthday to Phil Alvin, who is turning 70 today. He is the singer and guitarist in the American band The Blasters, who had some moderate success in the 1980’s. Here is Phil live from 1985, with The Blasters and his brother Dave on lead guitar, with the song Common Man.

Happy Birthday to one of the greats. Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd is turning 77 today. Here he is live from the Pink Floyd reunion in 2005 with the song Comfortably Numb. This is a pretty good guitar solo!
