Here’s to the memory of the American singer and songwriter Nanci Griffith, who was born 73 years ago today. She started performing professionally at the age of 14,and became a beloved and respected artist on the country and folk circuit, releasing 18 studio albums between 1978 and 2012, and collaborating with among others Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Townes Van Zandt and John Prine.

Although highly respected and with some considerable success, Nanci Griffith never became a big country star. Her charting history is limited, still she did win a Grammy for best country album in 1994, with the album Other Voices, Other Rooms. It is a very good record, which I highly recommend if you like folk/country.

Nanci Griffith passed away in 2021 aged 68. It is suspected it was cancer, since she already had struggled twice with this disease. However, the official cause of death given was “natural causes”, allegedly by request from Nanci herself. Whatever reason, here’s to the memory of this fine singer

Here’s to the memory of the Norwegian guitarist Robert Burås, who was found dead in his apartment 19 years ago today. No official cause of death were given. He was only 31 years old.
Robert Burås played guitar in Madrugada, one of the finest Norwegian bands ever. He also had the side project My Midnight Creeps, where he was the singer in addition to playing guitar. I’ll post two songs to the memory of Robert Burås, yet another of the musicians we lost much too early

Robert Burås got a memorial bench in Birkelunden, a park in central Oslo. The plaque on the bench reads:
