What's the best song you have heard today?

The Pretty Things is an under appreciated band from the British Blues Boom. Damn fine band it was! It so happes that their singer Phil May (1944-2020) was born 81 years ago today. He was the only constant member of the band from their formation in 1963 until they split up for good in 2018. To celebrate the memory of Phil May, and of The Pretty Things, here’s a cool clip filmed in Sweden for a TV show in 1966 :wine_glass:

Today it is 97 years since the great Italian composer Ennio Morricone (1928-2020) was born. He wrote epic soundtracks for too many movies to mention here, best known are the Spaghetti Westerns and The Mission. Who can forget the harmonica in Once Upon A Time In the West. Morricone was a master at his craft :wine_glass:

The Creation - Painter Man (1967)

Now it’s just a little rock history from me again. The Creation were an English band lasting from 1966 to 1969. The band has been dubbed as contenders and “could-have-been-up-there” with the contemporary British bands of the same era (you know who). Somehow this never happened. Bad luck, internal turmoil and changing line-ups are a big part of the reason for this.

Perhaps another part of the reason is that The Creation were not quite up to par with The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks or The Who. Still The Creation was a damn fine band and has become to be considered classic today. There’s been several runions through the years.

You may notice guitarist Eddie Phillips using a violin bow on the guitar. He did that already in 1966 Jimmy Page might have been watching

While we’re at it, The Creation was so good that they deserve one more :face_with_tongue:

The Creation - Biff Bang Pow (1967)

No special reason for this post, other than that I passed by The Creation today on my musiacal journey. Also, it looks like I might need another post to continue my ramblings here :joy:

Is it Simon and Garfunkel that has the original version of Cecilia in the first place? :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Yeah I would guess so,
"Cecilia " is a song by American musical duo Simon & Garfunkel. It was released in April 1970

Suggs version was released in 1996.

I’d like to pay tribute to the Jamaican singer Jimmy Cliff, who passed away Monday this week at the age of 81. Along with Bob Marley & The Wailers, he made reggae popular to Western audiences in the early 1970’s. And also along with Bob Marley, he is the only Jamaican musician in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

So to celebrate the momory of this fine singer, here’s two of his best known songs. Thank you for the music Jimmy. May you be remembered.

Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come (1972)

Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers To Cross (2012)
