Best Days Of Your Life
Red High Heels
btw - my birthday posts are not what i call ‘the best i’ve heard today’. it’s just for the ‘tradition’ if not an other one does. let me know if that is ‘to much’.
When it comes to the endless discussion about who is the greatest drummer ever, there is one guy who’s rarely mentioned. That is Ian Paice of Deep Purple. Which is a shame, because I think he is a fantastic drummer. And today he is turning 77. Happy Birthday to Ian Paice!
Deep Purple - Burn (live 1975)
For a drum solo by Ian Paice, I posted this one two years ago.
Today Debbie Harry of Blondie is turning 80! Not sure whether it’s still ladies week, but she is one of The Ladies in rock. When Blondie released their self-titled debut album in 1976, she almost instantly became an iconic figure in the rock world. Even though she was already in her ealy 30’s back then!
Due to their melodic and catchy songs, Blondie soon gained massive success, with seven of their singles reaching number 1 in the charts in various countries, six of them in the UK. It’s been said that when Blondie was at the height of their success, .there was pressure on Debbie Harry to ditch the guys in the band, go solo and make it really big. She most certainly had the looks for it.
However, Debbie Harry stood her ground. She was the singer in A Band! And when then husband (and Blondie guitarist) Chris Stein got sick, she laid her career to rest to take care of him. Iconic and integrity, that’s Debbie Harry. Happy Birthday to her
Blondie - Call Me
Blondie was scheduled for a new album early this year, but due to drummer Clem Burke’s death in February, it seems the album has been delayed. The band were touring as late as 2023, and I’d like to include a clip from the Glastonbury festival in England from that year. Here’s one to celebrate the birthday of Debbie Harry, and the memory of Clem Burke, the only original members still in the band two years ago.
Blondie - Atomic (live 2023)
Damn, Debbie is 78 years old here! And btw, if anyone seems to recognize the bass player it is Glen Matlock from the Sex Pistols.
it’s just my explanation for my posts
as i’m just here, here is another one of my top 10 ladies playlist.
Alanis Morissette, canadian american singer
All I Really Want
Here’s to the memory of one of the greats in blues. 90 years ago today the American harmonica player and singer James Cotton (1935-2017) was born. He started out in the early 1950’s playing harmonica in Howlin’ Wolf’s band. By the mid 50’s he was recruited into Muddy Waters’ band, and the rest is history.
In addition to playing harmonica on a heap of albums, James Cotton also got quite a few albums to his own name. Now Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters are already mentioned, but James Cotton has also played live and/or recorded with among others Janis Joplin, Keith Richards, B.B.King, Johnny Winter, Santana, Greg Allman, Grateful Dead and so on…
To James Cottons memory, here is track from his 1996 album Deep In the Blues
James Cotton - Dealing With the Devil
In February 2023 I posted the song Got My Mojo Working to the memory of Muddy Waters. And guess what, James Cotton is playing the harmonica here.
The first of your 3 songs here is great. I remember (I think) when ‘Nine Million Bicycles’ first came out. I really like Kate Melua’s voice but in that one in particular.
(my) ladies week ends.
does not mean that i do not post ladies anymore

Riptide (Vance Joy)
Today it’s 100 years since the American singer and guitarist Bill Haley (1925-1981) was born. Together with his band The Comets, he is a most important figure in the history of rock ‘n’ roll. Between late 1954 and late 1956, the band had nine top 20 records, among them See You Later Alligator and Shake, Rattle and Roll. However, Bill Haley & his Comets’ legacy is mostly due to one song, Rock Around the Clock.
Rock Around the Clock was released in 1954, but it wasn’t until the year after that the song became a huge success, when it was used as the theme song in the movie Blackboard Jungle. The single spent eight weeks at numer one in the US charts, and it also got to number one in the UK, Germany and Australia. In the UK the song charted again in both the 1960’s and 70’s. In addition the single was the first record to sell over one million copies in both the UK and Germany. It was the first single that can be called rock ‘n’ roll to top the charts anywhere.
Some have argued that Rock Around the Clock is the first rock ‘n’ roll song. This claim is most probably not correct. However, it can be argued that this is the song that more than any others brought rock ‘n’ roll to a wider audience, paving the way for other acts, like Elvis Presley, Little Richard and Chuck Berry. Unfortunately for the band, these artists had a wilder and more risque image than Bill Haley & his Comets, so the interst for them faded away during the latter part of the 1950’s.
Although a little forgotten today this is a man, and a band, that deserves to be remembered for their contribution to rock ‘n’ roll. Here’s one to the memory of Bill Haley
