Jon Dee Graham - The Ballad of Barbara and Steve (2016)
Former participant Barbara. Not an instant favourite, but then she started growing on me. ![]()
And that’s when she left ![]()
There was also a Steve, who was a guest in her apartment. And let’s not forget all the viewers through the years who’s been Steve on the forum.
This may also be the tribute to Jon Dee Graham, who passed away three days ago aged 67.
Bob Dylan - Absolutely Sweet Marie (1966)

Before I end, let me say I’m glad to get to plug this criminally under appreciated band, who did three excellent albums in the mid 1970’s. Too late for glam rock and too early for new wave.
De Lamaketta’s - Jolanda (2004)

If anyone should wonder, the language is Dutch. Still, Jolanda is universal ![]()
That’s crazy—I’ve been to the Netherlands plenty of times. Even to party. But I’ve never heard a Dutch rock ‘n’ roll/blues song before.![]()
Oh yes, there’s some damn fine music from the Netherlands too. If you’re interested in music, you may have something to explore there. In between Jolanda, of course
![]()
I’m sure there are plenty of good musicians there.
But you don’t hear music in Dutch very often unless you’re from the Netherlands yourself.
That’s for sure. I’m not Dutch myself, so admittedly all the music from the Netherlands I’m familiar with is sung in English, or instrumental in some cases. Even some yodelling here and there (Focus) ![]()
Andre Rieu, perhaps?
![]()
Or, if I’ve ever heard him in German, it’s Hermann Van Veen
I had to google this. He’s Dutch all right, and he plays some fine violin. ![]()
What parties do you go to when you visit the Netherlands? ![]()
You are norwegian Bud. So. Not dutch. ![]()
Oh, that was quite a while ago now.
But back in the day, a few friends and I used to rent a boat every summer. We’d cruise through the canals and rivers, passing through different cities. And in the evenings, we’d head to the bars in various harbors. Some of them still had jukeboxes back then.
But the best parties were in Leiden. A college town. Young people, and lots of pretty girls. We stumbled upon a pub party there by chance. The locals always let us join in.
Amsterdam also has great options and great spots, though it’s dangerous and too touristy.

And I’m still holding back songs on Sugar. There is quite a few! Can I resist? ![]()
A lovely old song.
And when it comes to the topic of “sugar,” there are surely plenty of great classics.
Passed by a couple of songs tonight that certainly deseves a post in this topic.

This was just the tip of the iceberg. I had four other songs in my head, but when I started to do some research, a few others popped up. Will I ever get around to post the original four? ![]()
