I didn’t get a chance to answer this when I read it. It matters to me. It should matter to everyone here. It’s appropriate to put a name with a face. Everyone should be called by their given name, be it real or fake. I have a thing about names. It’s just polite and courteous to call someone by the name they were given, or the nickname they choose to go by. Most people wouldn’t appreciate being called a name they were not given. You have taken the part you have quoted out of context, your complaint is about similar spelt names, they do sound quite differently if spoken

You have stated that you cannot tell them apart from their physical features

you could show me a picture of Maiya and Mariya side by side and I wouldn’t be able to tell you which one is which. If they were by themselves in a picture, it would be even more difficult. They are very similar physically, have dark hair, etc.

I’m not dismissing the importance of names

my point I was trying to make in this instance was it didn’t matter if one was called JJ or Peter Robert if you are not able to tell them apart,

I was trying to say it didn’t matter if they had extremely different names or similar names, you would still have the same issues telling them apart because the issue for you is Physical features and not what names they are called
