The VHTV Forum Cafe

Well I mean making a site where we can put browser games and intergrate it in the forums here. Not making the entire games from scratch :joy:

Yes I know. Been there done that. But this is not for VHTV I think. A virtual _____ in this virtual cafe is already pushing the limits.

Today in The Netherlands, the king celebrates his birthday. Everybody (almost) has a day off. How is your day going?

Wow that guy must be truly special when everyone gets a day off because his birthday :stuck_out_tongue:

He is the king! Every country should have a king.

Why? Is he political important in any way or why is he needed?

Political no and that is the beauty of it. He is needed to make us feel one. He is there when there is tragedy, a disaster. And he is there when we celebrate, victories in sports and so on.

And how much does that cost you each year? We don’t have somebody here and nobody misses such a person. Personally I think kings and queens are a thing of the middle ages and no longer needed. But that’s only my opinion and no personal attack at all

None taken…You sound like a Dutchman btw. It costs a lot. Let me look it up, hold on.

(…)

“De geraamde uitgaven voor het koninklijk huis stijgen in 2022 van 45,7 miljoen naar 48,2 miljoen euro, staat in de begroting van het koninklijk huis.”

So, about 48 million euro. We are with 18 million people. So that is less than 3 euro’s per capita per year. Don’t get me wrong, it is still a lot of money. A (German) president also costs money. I have no idea who your president is. How much does this nobody cost you?

Our President is Frank Walter Steinmeier. He has a Salary of about 214.000€ a year. He also gets 78.000€ a year for special expenses. Of course there is still costs of travel and and other expenses like personal protection and accomodation. But when you sum it up it won’t be much.

The U.K is interesting in this manner as the Royal family are a much debated topic but it seems they make economic sense

In 2017 their apparent costs was around £300 million but was estimated to have helped the economy by £1.7 billion

I tried to look it up and found a lot of different numbers. Also that former presidents still get payed. But yes, your system is much cheaper. And more democratic. And yet, most people in The Netherlands (including me) are happy the way it is. Weird no?

Ahahhah yeah maybe you are weird people :joy: :joy: Just joking of course :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes and we of course in England have our Queen and Royal Family . Of course, being a bit of a royalist i am very proud to have them, despite the fact that one or two of them have bee , shall we say problematical recently . The revenues they bring into the country as a result of tourism a long way outweighs their cost to the exchequer.

Here’s a foreigners take on our Queen/Kingsday:

Spring is finaly here. Best thing about summertime is _____ing Weizen.
