That’s right, Andechs Abbey is in Bavaria too, isn’t it? I totally forgot about that…!
And let’s not forget Carnival in Cologne, oh oh oh!

I was a young buck when I was there and really knew bugger all about :wine_glass: at the time. But sure learned to appreciate a good :beer_mug:(s) in my 6 years in Germany. Not only the :wine_glass:s in Germany but other counties I could visit at the time…the Berlin wall was still up at the time. Not only the :wine_glass: but all the different :beer_mug:s as well. I swear in those 6 years I totally tried to drink at least one of each  :face_with_spiral_eyes:  ! I would rather have a European or British :beer_mug: than a North American :beer_mug: .

One thing I found out not long after arriving in Lahr is that it was that Germany was (I’ll call them) :beer_mug: zones lol! It was all the local :beer_mug:s and regional :beer_mug:s. All the different :beer_mug:s produced is phenomenal, and this good sir is why I couldn’t drink at least one of each in my time there!!

Yes, b-e.e-r culture in Germany is huge. In the north, people tend to drink bitter, hoppy varieties, and as you head south, the taste becomes milder. But that can be very deceptive. Because in Bavaria, there are lots of bock and strong beers with higher a-l-c-o-h-o-l content. And those can knock you off your feet in no time…!
But only if you’re used to those beers. To them, the Kölsch beers in the Rhineland are just yellow dishwater.

I love those. Perfect to “Knödel and Schweinsbraten”

Bock and strong b-e-e-r-s taste great—they’re mild and go down easy.
But that’s exactly what makes them dangerous. Because before you know it, the effects hit you hard, and you quickly end up looking like this…! :face_vomiting:

Had a number of great Bavarian :beer_mug: s! I was best man for a friend I was serving with that marries a Bavarian girl. A Franciscan monk who had known my friends wife to be had known her from birth married them. I remember before all the pottery was broken outside her parents place there was what I’ll call a welcome dinner and drinks at a local Gasthof. I was sitting across from the Monk who spoke excellent English and discovered he loved to sing but only after 4 or 5 Weizenbie to loosen the vocal cords  . And yes, after a few could this guy sing! What a wedding it was!!

Yep absolutely right. I am lucky enough to have a number of German friends in Bavaria and I spend a few weeks there every Year - including lots of visits to the Ocktoberfest over the years. After crawling around a train floor early on, I learned to be wary of :clinking_beer_mugs: much more than 3 litres of :beer_mug: at the Fest. Also of course most of the towns and villages have their own :beer_mug: festivals - I often go to the Freising :beer_mug: fest same rules apply there!
