I was kind of ‘deployed’ in 1976 as well…it was the year I was born… but not in Cyprus.

David, your very welcome for the gif. Well if you look at it that way that would have been my 3rd deployment up to that time . We all have that 1st one lol. The 2nd was one was in Cyprus as well as a Medic when we jumped into Cyprus after Turkey tried to take the whole island in 1974. This was a UN peace keeping operation that turned into peace making after the Turks attacked us. Our main objective was to hold the airport, and that we did with the sad loss of Canadian troops and some seriously injured.
This is also where I got the name Bandaids. Just before we jumped into Cyprus the CSM (Company Sargent Major) called out to me saying if he got hit he wasn’t going to be calling “MEDIC”. He didn’t want any Medic, he would be calling for his Bandaids! That name stayed with me throughout my 26 years in uniform and beyond, many I know from my service days still call me that.
