You realize that all those nice numbers represent what US Citizen will have to pay in extra to get their things right ?
This is slowing down everything in the US at the moment and it will continue for a while.
Let me give you an example :
you purchased a shirt for 40$ last December. You want another one now. It will be 40$ plus the tarif… So you will pay 50, 60, 70$…
Unless you can find one that is made in the US…
Maybe a manufacture has room in it’s agenda to start producing them… Or maybe a new manufacture will have to be built.
In any case, just the labor cost 3 to 4 times more than in an emerging country. The cost of building or expending is prohibitive because everything received tarif surcharge.
Machines will be imported or… a manufacture will have to start making them in the US… again Tarif makes it very expensive.
OOPs… Cotton is now more expensive due to tarif so even if there is already a manufacture in the US… the shirt is more expensive now.
This is all going to take time… not days nor weeks… but months and years.
But never mind, US is going all in and build, create, install and produce for 3 to 4 times the price of what others are doing elsewhere.
Are you proud that you have to pay 3 to 4 times the price you paid earlier ? Will you have enough money to buy eggs?

Unfortunately the answer is no. and for a simple reason.
it is not the biggest that win over the smallest. Not anymore and since quite a long time. the winner is the fastest over the slowest and unfortunately all those tarifs just pulled the brakes in the US economy.
US will not have the capacity to spend 25% more on goods for the trillions they import each and every years. The rest of the world will reorganize their trade routes and instead of dropping each others, they will unite themselves to compensate and react fast. Don’t forget that the fastest will be the winner.
I do not mean to be bad or hateful here. US always been a good ally for many countries and regions. US is cutting itself out here. It is very sad and unpleasant days for everyone on this planet. We are loosing a brother, a friend… We can’t help but try to reason the brother. We can’t force him but we can wait a little and help him… but not for too long. He need to react and act quick before those links vanish for good.

Don’t expect well-thought out and reasoned logic will work on him, he’s a lost cause, even when he’s paying over the odds for goods 3 years into Trump term, he will be angrily shaking his fist and blaming Biden for his misfortune.

We have literally been getting screwed over on trade deals for 50+ years. He ran on doing this, its not a surprise.
Instead of buying useless Chinese crap on amazon every day, yes people will have to cut back on spending for things they actually need instead of useless crap.
I’m guessing (along with trump) that this will open negotiations for more fair deals, thats the plan. Will be a rough few months, but I have faith.

I agree, it was stupid thing to say when he said that. I said it at the time (not here but talking with people). He’ll get it done soon.
