On mine the filter is on the top. And you do not need to disconnect the cables to clean the filters. I suggest to just buy a can of compressed air and spray it with that. Should blow all the dust out.

Open the window and dust will get out. Or using a vaccum cleaner helps as well.
You can also buy some spray for mold desinfection if needed. You do not need to reomve it from the wall for that or disconnect the power.
Be careful with that cable. It comes from the outside unit and if you do not take measures to cut power to it this cable will have full current 
It is always best to just turn off the power regardless of situations. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
