Make a live stream and call it ‘Tribute to Andy Wahrhol’ and wait for some Art-Idiots nominating you for awards.
Reactivating this old topic as I come home from a double feature of PRIMETIME and DIGGER. Primetime is pretty much what you can expet from the trailers, it’s fine but nothing special. But Digger… well, it’s complicated.
Digger is getting very mixed reviews and seems to be flopping quite hard at the box office. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. And I have to keep it vague, because there’s some big twist quite early on that I wouldn’t want to spoil.
You could even say the film is not at all the story the trailers advertise. And it’s also rexactly what the trailer tells you. I get why some people won’t like it. I also wonder if some people don’t like it because they don’t get it, or because it’s hitting a little too close to home?
Is it absurd and over the top? Absolutely. But it’s also very, very true. The absurdity of it all is kind of the point. Does that make any sense? I think I could best describe the film as a cathartic rant not unlike Dr. Stranglove.
One thing is for sure, you get great preformances by Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed and John Goodman. And Inarritu is taking a big swing here. Whether that’s a hit or a miss for you, there’s only one way to find out.
Legend RIP
Anyone got some good spooky movie recommendations for Halloween?

Here are mine:
THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE (2016)
THE NUN I (2018)
THE NUN II (2023)
Why not go with classics of various degrees?
The american remake is not bad at all, but I saw the japanese original of The Ring, “Ringu” at a festival back then and it was a quite scary watch.
Going back a little bit further I really liked The Haunting (1963) by Robert Wise, a capable, often overlooked director who also made West Side Story, Star Trek The Motion Picture and The Andromeda Strain. The Remake sucks in this case.
And if you want to go really, really classic, you might be surprised how well Nosferatu (1922) holds up when you watch it in a darkened room. Both remakes do have their merrits, personally I find the Werner Herzog one with Klaus Kinski (1979) to be more interesting than the recent one by Robert Eggers. I mean, it’s Herzog and Kinski. But the original defined the genre. And here it is, in it’s entirety, with english title cards.
Thanks for the recommendations, but I’m actually more into modern horror. ![]()
Obsession, for example, was recommended in this topic and I was instantly hooked. Definitely gonna watch it a few more times. So if you’ve got any more recent horror recommendations, hit me up! ![]()
Yeah, I recommended that one, too. I had actually thought about watching Other Mommy tonight, that one looked interesting, but it got totally slammed by the critics. They didn’t even have press screenings.
Recently Resident Evil was fun, but not really that scary. I’m not that much into the typical mainstream-ish horror. Some films I enjoyed watching in the theatre in recent memory were Longlegs, Keeper and Weapons. I also quite liked the Suspiria remake from a couple of years ago, which some people might consider blasphemy.
Mainstream is a spectrum, and there are good and bad movies across that spectrum. I’m always up for the good ones. But at the end of the day, it’s all a matter of personal taste.
I’ve seen both Suspiria movies, and I think they’re both great. ![]()
